Cas Semenya

nitro 2019-05-02 18:47:27

Not a fan of her but i think it is unfair to limit her natural testosterone level.

Are they going to start limiting other physical advantages of elite athletes?

Will the tennis people follow and target females like Serena Williams?

She is ugly but why punish her for her abnormal circumstance.

Tryangle 2019-05-02 19:02:05

Telling Semenya to take something to inhibit what her body produces naturally is insane. She should be ticked off.

As someone posted elsewhere, should they have demanded Michael Phelps shave off his large wingspan and foot size?

dayne 2019-05-02 20:58:54

It would have been interesting if she was representing one of the bigger name countries like the USA, England,or France. I am sure the LGBQT groups would be protesting

I'm just surprised that Yardies aren't calling for a boycott of IAAF events.

Always wandered why she never really tried to break the 800 m world record. Perhaps she just didnt want to attract anymore attention to herself. She should just go for it before these new rules take effect.

Secretariat's heart was twice the normal size and 33% bigger than any horse heart ever seen . Should Secretariat's records be expunged because of this ?

In reply to nitro Nitro! Come now, my good man. You should know that in the West, we dont denigrate with that adjective, ugly. CSemanya, is just unattractive. That's all.

My daughter is a campaigner for LGBTQ rights in the UK, and she knows very little about athletics.

This evening, when I came home from work, she asked me, "Who is Semenya?"

Apparently, a lot of her friends are up in arms about this ruling.

So, I explained to her, in as unbiased a way as possible, the pros and cons of the ruling.

I don't think this is going away any time soon....

Semenya's a private person, she doesn't have TV endorsements, etc. So outside of T&F she doesn't have that recognition factor.

So agree, this issue won't go away anytime soon. But awareness of this topic has shot up a bit this week, so we'll see what happens.

dayne 2019-05-04 11:31:51

Good to see Semenya is going to fight for her career, it is hypocritical that the Athletic officials would punish Athletes for using performance enhancers, but the want to make an Athlete use a performance inhibitor just because the other athletes cannot up their game.

cricketmad 2019-05-04 21:05:27

Semenya is more male than female .

She/he runs in the women's race but yet turns around and marries a woman. She feels like a man but reaps the benefit of beating women in races where they have little chance of winning.

Using the natural barometer of age, at 25 you don't get to compete in under-20 or over-35 competitions.

In boxing, you have weight class for a reason, there are people who weigh over 200lbs naturally, still, they don't get to box in the welterweight division.

Having two functioning legs is natural, however, that means you don't get to compete in events for one-leg amputees.

This isn't about whether athletes with hyperandrogenism should be allowed to compete; it's about whether they should be allowed to compete in women's events. If you have male-level testosterone coming from internal or external testicles, you should compete with the men. That may mean you won't be world class, but nobody has a right to be placed into a less-advantaged division than what fits their physiology so they can be world class.

Semenya has XY chromosomes and is intersex no ifs ands or buts. Typically females have XX chromosomes while males are XY.
Intersex track athletes with XY chromosomes and naturally elevated levels of testosterone must decrease the hormone to participate in certain races versus women.

Now we can get emotional and base our opinions as such, however, basic biology tells us that as it relates to competion, Semenya falls into the male category!

There was someone who looked and performed similar to Semenya about a decade ago and there was not a problem with her competing, her name was Maria Mutola. I believe some people behind the scene are lobbying against Semenya.

BeatDball 2019-05-05 14:34:11

In reply to dayne MM from Mozambique is more feminine!

So is there info about if Semenya's wife was impregnated naturally, if she was, them the Athletic World body might have a case, I just saw the news that Caster is married.

BeatDball 2019-05-05 15:15:46

You must have a womb and an active menstrual cycle.

No aftermarket genitals as a qualifier

JoeGrine 2019-05-05 21:27:30

Regards to Mutola, I do not know her chromosome composition and I try my best to take my emotions out of it. Semenya's XY situation is known and we must be fair and highlight that even if we are against the CAS ruling.
