John Campbell

Saw him bat in person for the first time during the Barbados Test against England. You could see the class then. Competition is good at all positions. Now that Campbell is emerging he will slot in when Gayle retires. In the meantime I expect Evin Lewis to be available for West Indies duty on a more consistent basis smile

Gayle was talking about unretiring after that amazing performance in the ODIs against England. Let's see what he ends up doing ...

BeatDball 2019-05-05 14:53:25

He does carry himself in a quiet & classy manner.
cool

If Gayle scores a truckload of runs and WI lose say in a semi or a final, just maybe he will consider staying on. Though I seriously doubt.

If I were Gayle they would have to do to me what they did to Shiv. I would try to milk every last dollar of income out of my career, health permitting.

I expect natty-in-perpetuity to show up soon to both cuss and congratulate Campbell at the same time. He will say that Campbell has been allergic to any score above 49 for most of his career. Then he will congratulate Campbell for scoring almost four 50s and say it was long overdue smile

He keeps his shape and plays proper cricket shots. He lost shape a bit during the last 10 overs, but that was to be expected. The thing that I liked when I watched him live against the England pacers was that he had lots of time to play his shots. Another positive was the chemistry between Campbell and Hope in the middle and their obvious mutual respect and admiration for each other during that post game interview.

That is the mistake most athletes make, they don't know when to quit. They hang around too long and end up being forced out. It is better for an athlete to leave on his or her terms as opposed to being forced to leave.

I am not saying that Gayle should stay to the point where he embarrasses himself on the field, but that series against England showed he still has a lot left in the tank. By the way, I do not approve of the sendoff given to Shiv. I think the powers that be did not want him to break Lara's record ... but Shiv should have been allowed to finish that series

You talking about Phil Simmons right?

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Phil and a certain Bajan selector who is really close friends with Lara. Dem two like batty (botsy) and bench as they say in Jamaica. Although Lloyd was chairman of selectors at that time ...

But big Phil said that COB was a Dave puppet and did not follow the protocol
in selection of players.

Different periods boss. Lloyd was COS when Shiv was dropped.

Many of these youngsters played together from age 13, Campbell and Kb seems to have it also.

I would have to take a look. Nikita Miller did said that JC is the best player of pace bowling in the West Indies, but not so good again spin . Spin did not bother him yesterday though

In reply to Walco … he did dunk a few over the boundary.

big grin

Happy for the youth but wasnt impressed by his batting in the England series. Far too risky in my opinion. I would be very cautious about reading too much into his performance today.
About 20 years ago Sherwin Campbell & Adrian Griffith had an opening stand of 276 again NZ in NZ. At the time most were of the view that finally, we had found the replacement for Greenidge and Haynes. But we lost that match and series easily and history has proved that it was just a lucky day.

Happy for JC and hope that he proves me wrong.

Mr-Anguilla 2019-05-06 21:39:12

Someone needs to tell him stop trying to be fancy with those reverse shots! Play your simply play dude. Stop trying to give your wicket away for 1 maybe 2 runs tops!

BeatDball 2019-05-06 23:02:38

In reply to Mr-Anguilla I do not like unconventional shots - they are risky!
