Shouldnt Hope and Campbell have retired
In reply to StumpCam
Nah! One more match against Ireland, and two against Bangladesh, plus a final in Ireland, for the other batsmen to get a chance....
In reply to StumpCam
sometimes I do wonder...ITS A SERIOUS GAME OF CRICKET. IN FACT A TOURNAMENT! It ain't a practice game or goat soap/ roti cricket.
In reply to mikesiva
So, whats your plan, to not let them open or rest them?!
In reply to Raggs
So, had they retired after they each got to 150 wouldve been detrimental to the team??
Yes. The reality is that Campbell is not the opener for the World Cup. Darren Bravos should have been given an opportunity for a long innings.
In reply to StumpCam
If I was the coach, I would rest one of them for the next game, and give Dowrich a game...but unfortunately, I'm not the coach.
Let's not forget that the squad named for the World Cup is just provisional. Campbell can state his case for inclusion....
Also, we have two warm-ups in Bristol at the end of the month with NZ and SA. There are quite a few matches for Bravo and co and get some practice.
In reply to Raggs
You really believe that Campbell scoring 179 rather than 140 is important in this match?
Daren Bravo scoring 15* rather than 45* is unimportant to you in the scheme of things?
Like you, sometimes I do wonder!!!!
Gayle retiring after World Cup.
In reply to Dukes
Wow!!
In reply to Dukes
are we not in tournament? do we not owe the other team in the mix some respect? you into match fixing or something? these games are on all bookies websites for BETTING!
In reply to ponderiver
Welcome back. The last time I saw you, you ran away from your tread about Narine!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to Raggs
Are your cricketing decisions based on respecting the opposition and facilitating BETTING?
Allyuh not serious.
In reply to Courtesy
Exactly!
Its a competitive fixture. End of debate.
In reply to Courtesy
MATCH FIXING IS A SERIOUS CRIME ASK MARLON SAMUELS in fact study some cricket history and check out the name Hansie Cronje. You cannot do such out of the norm stuff in a serious game in a tournament.
If I am to take issue with anything is the fact that in the death both Shai and Campbell were trying to hit the ball too hard, thus losing their shapes especially to the plythora of slower balls
Neither are sloggers as far as I see though Campbell is closer to a hitter.
I see this batting as investment in the future
In reply to Raggs
Please point me to rule that says a batsman cannot retire his inning!
If you can, then Ill accept your point!
In reply to Raggs
Mate, you have defeated your match fixing point by asserting that a cricket decision should be made on the basis
or should consider that "these games are on all bookies websites for BETTING!"
In reply to Courtesy
ok the opening record is broken @ 304/0 and Shai Hope decides to retire on 165 when the score is 352 and someone in Barbados/India puts a bet on that the new record half a hour before lt happens and now it stands @ 352. Some investigation could take place. a player could be suspended
In reply to Raggs
Try again. You are suggesting here that Shai Hope knows that someone placed a bet on a record opening stand...preposterous.
And btw, one never argues hypotheticals in sports.
In reply to Courtesy
That is quite some Ragged logic right there.
In reply to Priapus
Indeed.

the 12th man comes out and he gives him the mg. he goes back into the dressing room and someone makes the call. a few grand and bingo.
a football coach in the lower half of the English football league got done cos he told someone/ a family member that at an exact time he was gonna bite into a burger and the cameras will catch the act. it was a glamour tie against top opposition.lost his job.
In reply to Raggs
My apologies for responding to your post.It will not happen again.

This time I will exhort you to stop trying.
In reply to Dukes
Rags like he had too much of that Irish Coffee!
In reply to Courtesy
was a reserve goal keeper sorry my bad. match fixing
In reply to StumpCam
Or maybe he still can't get over Archer choosing to play for the Poms.
In reply to Raggs
I don't want to waste time on reading the link. Just tell me whether the two situations are analogous. Save me some precious time. Just point out the similarities to me.
Yes they both should have retired, give the other batsmen some time to build their confidence in the conditions
In reply to Courtesy
in an official tournament can you give me a name of a batsman retiring just for the sake of it and not an injury, If you can I'll stand corrected.
In reply to Raggs
Batsmen have done it in test matches. Go read about it. Nothing in the laws of the game prevents a batsman from retiring hurt or retiring out.
But more importantly, have you abandoned your betting and bookie argument?
...........................
Anyways, I have done a Dukes. I will never respond to your post again. Adios.
In reply to Courtesy
no I have not, in a tournament ODI format. A player retiring at the batting crease unless injured. never seen or heard that before.
In reply to StumpCam
I was wondering that but dem blokes at the top knos better we,so we better quiet.
In reply to mikesiva
The problem is this is England and rain does F UP tings so at 150 for none both should have retired, for me dat wudda be better.
In reply to mikesiva
Let's not forget that the squad named for the World Cup is just provisional. Campbell can state his case for inclusion....
During the press conference when the team was named, Jimmy Adams said that the team named was the team for the World Cup and would be changed ONLY DUE TO INJURIES.
In reply to Dukes
And the way Russell is going, and possibly Gayle and Lewis, injuries are a strong possibility....
Campbell needs to make the best use of his opportunities, and today he did.
Now, if Reifer is a forward-thinking coach, he would rest Campbell from the Tuesday game, and give Dowrich a batting spot. That way, Bravo and co could get a bat.
We have one more match against Ireland, two games against Bangladesh in Ireland, a final in Ireland, and two games in Bristol against NZ and SA. It's a bit premature to suggest that Campbell and Hope should retire out in the first game in Ireland.
In reply to Raggs
Raggs, one more thing. According to your claim one would conclude that only the captain has the right to be involved with the bookies whenever he retires the side by way of a declaration!
In reply to mikesiva
In reply to natty_forever
Yeah, that's what I really meant....
Reifer will most likely play Campbell again in the second ODI. And all those folks who are worrying that Bravo won't get a chance to bat, will probably get to see the entire side bat on Tuesday!
In reply to granite and mikesiva you realize is a Tr-Nation series and not warm up matches? As this performance adds to my international ODI record, why would I retire, when 200 around the corner.
In reply to natty_forever
Agreed.
Retiring out also makes no sense when there are four matches to play in Ireland.
Bravo and co will get plenty of opportunities.
In reply to mikesiva
Not if the openers continue to bat 47 of the 50 overs...
In reply to Kay what are the odds? We could have been 0-1 in over number 1.
In reply to mikesiva
Maaaan! How you come and spoil up the people foolish argument so!
//
Lets see how the record breaking duo fears against Bangladesh...
In reply to Cricket_101 I am not worried about that, I am looking at us scoring over 300 as team on a consistent basis. That would require all batters with bats on deck.
In reply to StumpCam
And give other batsmen a go, since this is preparation for the WC?
Every man got to fill their booths when they can..... you & I would... most others too......
In reply to natty_forever[/
Lets hope them Mek at least 250 against Banga
In reply to StumpCam
2 days yuh struggle to mek a likkle 1/2 century...
heres a single to get you there.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
Not into personal milestones and that is the gist of this thread, all about team! I prefer to rotate the strike!
In reply to Ewart
What did I tell you? Campbell out. Dowrich in.
In reply to StumpCam
Good luck today, no Campbell.
In reply to mikesiva
Yup.
//
When Hope got out - 204 for 4 ...
The WI batting lost all "hope".
Good thing Hope and Ambris never retired
In reply to StumpCam
We will find out tomorrow.
In reply to StumpCam
Let's see.
In reply to Yadi
Since you keep bringing this up, I hope the following puts it in perspective.
At the end of 40 overs WI had scored 300+ and both batsmen were at 150 or close to it! The 1st wicket fell in the 47th over.
Sometimes in cricket you have to make bold moves that benefits the team despite what others think.
But, I rest my case! Nothing further to say!
In reply to Raggs
So, had they retired after they each got to 150 wouldve been detrimental to the team??
In reply to StumpCam
But, I rest my case! Nothing further to say!...
Very well said.
And further, one of the batsmen who opened is not on the WC squad while Darren Bravos is deprived of a solid knock which he badly needs.
In reply to StumpCam
We are not going backwards ... in time.
Today, we need to get 300 plus runs &
no John Campbell to steal the headlines.
So Bravo couldve used the batting practice
in the first match had Hope and Campbell retire! Just saying!
