Not a great innings. We did not show enough intent. Shai can strike at 82 if he faces 75 balls. Once u face 120 balls there must be a change of gears. He should have scored 140 facing that many balls as it limits other players ability to get set

Agreed another ineffectual ODI century from Shai

Could you imagine what the score would have been if at least 2 other players had scored "ineffectual ODI centuries" like Hope did?

Great observation. Mate, alotta fellas here will not understand what you posted above. They see absolute numbers on the surface alone. There are no attempts to analyze the numbers in the context of the strategic imperatives and approach of the team. In the trend and context of modern day ODI batting, this century was a shitty as they come.

And I remain a fan of Shai Hope.

If another player had scored another century at the same pace. It would also be
indeed ineffectual.

Together he and that player would have made 218 runs, leaving only 34 balls for the rest of the team to make runs from...

If they even went at 12 an over from those deliveries, the team would have scored only 282, which based on the Bangladeshi innings would not have been enough runs to challenge them, but they more likely would still have ended in the region of 260... doesn't matter if it's for two or 9.

ODI centuries at that SR in this day and age loses you more games than it wins, as Shai keeps showing us, and the aim is to win games
Attractive ton, nice looking, good cricket, but won't win u matches

DIEHARD 2019-05-08 03:42:46

In reply to jacksprat

A player who has consumed 132 deliveries has a responsibility to the team having used up that many deliveries, to score at a minimum SR of 100.

I'll make the time to look at how many batsmen scoring an ODI century in the last 4 or so years, scoring at less than a run a ball have been on the winning side.

I'll bet, not many

You have been commenting on Shai Hope SR for over a year now, since the WCQ his SR was 68 now it is 75 still not good enough but it should be pointed out that IMO Hope took over the role that DM Bravo did before he went into exile, his SR is 71 even lower than hopes present SR and he only averages 32. Also did you know that in Hopes first 25 ODIs West indies very bowled out 9 times and were 9 down at the 50 over another 5 times. The point I am trying to make he has probably been given a specific role of holding the innings together.
Which do you think is better a SR of 95 and an average of 32 or SR of 82 And an average of 40.

Which one results in a win? lol

In the modern ODI game..a century at less than a run a ball on a "normal" pitch, will not win you games.

And let me be clear, i am no supporter of Darren Bravo either, i just cant highlght is slow scoring because he hasn't been scoring.

My only issue is with all the praise and accolades by looking at his average, which looks good, but his individual scores are ineffectual.

His SR needs to be upped, he's worse than Shiv if you ask me, he's not taking any risk to up the score, so of course he'll score big.

Shai scored 109 off 132 balls at a scoring rate of 82.Extrapolating 300 balls the score would be 246 which is less than the 261 scored.
In theory if you bat more balls, your scoring rate should be better than the rest. Most people have scoring rates of their fifties and centuries that are much better than their overall scoring rate.
