Anand's housekeeper raided by cops

Police have searched the home of the housekeeper for former attorney general Anand Ramlogan.

Officers raided the residence at Sir Lamont Avenue, Phillipine, near San Fernando, at daybreak today.

Housekeeper Goomatie Ragbir told reporters that the police said they were looking for ammunition.

“They say we have weapons in we house. We don’t have any weapons. We don’t deal with drugs…”.

Rgbir said a male relative in the house sometimes ‘takes a smoke’ and the officers found a “joint”.

The relative was arrested.

Clueless Gary wants report: "Who ordered raid on Anand's maid?"

COMMISSIONER of Police Gary Griffith has asked for a report from police officers involved in this morning’s search of housekeeper Goomatie Ragbir.

Griffith told the Express said neither him nor the Senior superintendent of the Southern Division Zamsheed Mohammed were aware that the search was being planned.

Ragbir’s house located at Sir Lamont Avenue, Phillipine near San Fernando was searched for illegal firearm and ammunition early Wednesday morning.

Ragbir works as a housekeeper for corruption accused former attorney general Anand Ramlogan.

Griffith briefly spoke with the Express following a police briefing in Port of Spain. He said he was unaware of the search and has asked for a report to be given by 1 p.m. from officers involved.

Gulf View mansion owners shamed, humiliated by fruitless police search

Gulf View resident Ravi Dinanath is expected to meet with an officer of the Police Service’ Professional Standards Bureau to file a formal report regarding the search of his home last Friday.

Dinanath has an appointment to meet with an officer at the PSB’s south office after he sent a message to Commissioner Gary Griffith questioning the raid of his house without a search warrant.

Dinanath sent a WhatsApp message to Griffith’s phone number following the search of his home at Seaview Parkway, La Romaine

Six other houses in the affluent community were searched by the elite Special Operations Response Team and other police teams.

The message to Griffith read: “I would like an answer from you as to why my home was invaded and raided by your officers (+/-17 of them) without a search warrant on the morning of May 3. All of them were silent as to the motive except one revealed they were ordered by the ‘higher up (political directorate)’ to make you look bad. My wife is hospitalised with an asthma attack. I will include photos. I would like an appointment with you to reveal the details. My son was studying until 5 a.m. for his final BSc exam only to be awakened by three guns pointing at him. Call me please to discuss as this is a very traumatic and disturbing event. Thank you in anticipation of your prompt attention to this matter”.

Dinanath, a retiree who worked in the oil industry, told the Express yesterday that he is living in fear since that raid.

Seems like TT is looking like Fiji of some years ago, that new law seems very prejudiced against rich Indians, what about the Syrians and Chinese, don't forget the rich Afros. What an arrogant bunch, pointing gun at an un-armed boy studying for his BSc,I hope the people see through these panic acts of the government,it is nothing more nothing less. The government can now afford to chase Indians outta Trinidad because Afro people can cook curry just as good as Indos, they can also make Doubles,Roti and Bussupshot, there is now,no need for Indians.

Griffith on maid raid report: It was rather vague

COMMISSIONER of Police Gary Griffith has asked for a second and more in-depth report on the police raid at the Palmiste home of Goomatie "Savi" Ragbir, maid of former attorney general Anand Ramlogan who is currently before the courts on corruption conspiracy charges.

Speaking on Wednesday on the raid, Griffith said he initially was unaware of the raid and asked for a report. On receiving this report, Griffith said, he found it to be inadequate and asked for a second one. "The first report was rather vague," the top cop said.

"They submitted it to me and it was rather vague. I need more information to verify what caused them to be able to go there (to the home) so I asked them to send something more comprehensive than that." Asked when he will receive the report, Griffith said he was unable to say.

Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal asked the AG to clarify the $1.4 billion figure.

Said Al-Rawi “In the period 2010 to 2015 the sum of $1.4 billion was spent by the Government across all of the Ministries and Statutory enterprises. The Attorney General’s office had conduct of the vast majority of those expenses, for example Petrotrin, UDeCOTT, UTT, Eteck, T&TEC,”

“The then Attorney General took conduct of matters, actually in breach of the law and had the mind and management in the AG’s office and directed expenses. So the whole of Government expenditure was $1.4 billion, the AG’s office itself spent $444 million. Of that $444 million, that was the actual expenditure, the then AG left a debt of $137 million so in the period 2010 to 2015 it was approximately $600 million that the AG’s office, taking the gross figure for the whole of Government to approximately $1.6 billion,” he added.

He said a value for money audit was conducted and possibly fraudulent were referred to the police.

Moonilal asked if the AG can provide the whole of Government expenditure for legal fees for when the PNM took office.

Committee chair Brigid Annisette-George said she will not allow the question.

Moonilal then asked for a breakdown of the $50 million.
