It doesn't look good for the king this season

Those of us who watch a lot of tennis know that Tsitsipas is going to make a mark in this game.
On clay I'll never rule out Rafa.

Best of three is not best of five. Thiem has beaten Nadal three or four times on clay. They met last year in the finals of the French Open.

6-4 6-3 6-2

Nadal.

He is very strong mentally. I see him getting a major before the likes of Zverev and even Theim... Theim's best shot is the French and Zverev loses at the most inopportune times. Tsistpas doesn't mind coming from one or two sets down...

the last clay tournament Federer played was in 2016 I believe.....to come back to playing competetive clay court tennis and push the likes of Theim to three sets is very good..Fed turns 38 in three months...

Chrissy 2019-05-12 00:10:14

In reply to hotarobin

That was his choice - I agree with Fuzzy.

Fed also had two match points in the 2nd set tiebreak. Pretty good showing for the GOAT.

Thiem has been the 2nd best clay courter in the world over the past two seasons. I honestly thought he'd dispose of Fed in straight sets.

hotarobin 2019-05-12 01:21:55

In reply to Devin

Yes I don't get where Chrissy and Fuzzy coming from. You don't have to like Fed but for him to actually compete with Thiem on clay, given the recent history, is commendable. I also thought that Theim would have dismissed him much easier...

Chrissy 2019-05-12 01:46:23

In reply to hotarobin

Yuh cyan have it both ways - he is clearly not the GOAT on clay. The Fed is the most elegant tennis player of all time and he has had a magnificent career on all surfaces but clay. Give him his due - he won the French once.

The only reason he isn't one of my favourites is because of his bawling after some Nadal licks a few years ago and he is clueless about reviews.

Love the 2nd best lol

hotarobin 2019-05-12 03:26:01

You may want to take the emotions out of it sis. This was not about GOAT. Look back and see that the conversation was only ever about how he was able to compete having been away from clay. You seem to be making it into something else.

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-05-12 13:36:14

In reply to hotarobin

As Chrissy alludes his being away was a tactical choice to avoid clay and to preserve his overall longevity so he gets no sympathy points as if he were injured.

King of clay? vs Djoker of clay

Devin 2019-05-12 18:42:01

Nice draw for Djoker. First round bye, a couple bums, a walkover, then faced Thiem and Tsitsipas, both of whom had no gas in the tank due to matches that went the distance against Fed and Nadal, respectively.

First tournament victory since the Aussie open. I saw him the other day, his head looked liked it weighed 40 pounds, while his body weighs 10 pounds.

If I'm not mistaken, he's either vegetarian or vegan now. Doesn't look right. He may have a chance at the French if he gets a cakewalk of a draw. I don't believe this title is a return to form.

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-05-12 19:15:50

Sour puss.

No player controls the draw. It is dictated by ranking and form

If neither had no gas in the tank after a 3 setter, they have no hope in the French Open

In reply to imusic

You have days off at the Slams, whereas the Quarters, Semis, and finals are played over the course of three days at the other tournaments.

Tsitsipas' match against Nadal was 2 1/2 hours long, less than 24 hours later he's on court again.

The back-end of the non-grand slam tournaments can be extremely taxing.

Still don't believe anyone can beat Nadal over the course of 5 sets on Clay.

Devin 2019-05-12 20:25:47

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Agreed. I'm saying there is nothing to read into this victory. He had a walkover and played two guys who were running on empty.

On to Rome and then the French.

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-05-13 19:40:34

Chrissy. Venus blew 8 match points today. Luckily see won 9n the 9th
