REGION CHARLES AGUSTUS OLLIVIERRE ,
was the first Black Player to be selected to Tour England with a Team
from the West Indies .
He was not from Jamaica ; Barbados ;
Trinidad ; or British Guiana as it was then called ;
Charles Ollivierre was born in St. Vincent , and played Cricket in Victoria Park , due to the fact that he lived very near to that Park, which is still a Playing Field in St. Vincent .
Charles Ollivierre decided to stay in England after that Tour had ended ,and played Cricket for Derbyshire ,
he never returned to St. Vincent ; however the People in Derbyshire were so fond ofhis Cricket prowess
He was called " King Charlie " by the People who lived in Derbyshire ,
and admired his prowess as a Batsman & Bowler .

Perhaps you failed to recognize that
I stated that :
CHARLES AUGUSTUS OLLIVIERRE WAS THE
FIRST BLACK CRICKETER TO REPRESENT
THE REGION ON A TOUR TO ENGLAND .
It is very interesting that even in SVG Charles Ollivierre is not even
remembered .
I get the impression that the current people who are Cricket Fans and live in Derbyshire know about
" King Charlie's " exploits on the
Cricket Field .

From reading the Article they were a lest 4 black players on tour and not one as the the best fit with the WIC reported.
Thanks for providing another source to the POINT.
If there were at least 4 black players on the first tour to England, how come Dollivierrie "was the first black player to be selected to tour England with a team from the West Indies?"

remembered .
Is it because he played for Trinidad?

In this very Forum I stated how he was
selected to be on the Tour . Charles
Ollivierre and his brothers lived near
to the Victoria Park .
The Victoria Park had a Supervisor ,who knew the Ollivierre Brothers , and he allowed them to play in the Park .
At some point this Supervisor got a
Job in Trinidad at Queens Park and when he heard that they were selecting Players to go on a Tour to
England , HE recommended that they
have a look at Charles , and his younger brother Richard .
CHARLES & HIS BROTHER RICHARD WENT
TO TRINIDAD TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR
CRICKET PROWESS , CHARLES WAS THEN
SELECTED TO GO ON THE TOUR TO
ENGLAND ; WHERE HE LIVED UNTIL HE
DIED . HE WAS THE FIRST BLACK
PLAYER TO PLAY COUNTY CRICKET IN
ENGLAND .
His brother Richard however went to
England on the second Tour from the Region that went there , he however did not remain in England .

When Charles Ollivierre went to Trinidad his skills were already well
honed when he went to Trinidad , HE
only went there so that an assessment could be made on whether he should be
on the Team going to England .
As I have already stated , He & his
Brother were recommended by the then Caretaker of QUEENS PARK , who knew
the Ollivierre Brothers when he was
employed to be the Caretaker of Victoria Park , and they lived close
to the Victoria Park .

I was in error in stating that he was
the first Black Player to go on a Tour
to England .

ENGLAND .

So where is the apology?
It is very interesting , and quite evident that some people in this
Forum ,understanding of the nuances of the English language is exceedingly
Shallow .
What is indeed troubling is the freaking fact that they are completely
oblivious of this freaking Fact ; which is indeed Sad , especially since
they seem unaware that their comments
demonstrates their shallowness .

" King Charlie's " exploits on the
Cricket Field .
Died March 25, 1949, Pontefract, Yorkshire, England (aged 72 years 248 days)
Are you sure people in Derby that knew about him, is still living?

It seems that You enjoy making yourself Stupid . Evidently You are
unaware of the fact that Generations tell their Young People the exploits
of Cricketers they love .
Lost on You also is the very fact that in this Day & Age what Generations
pass down to other Generations in their families can be verified in Old
Newspapers ; and in the Internet .
I have absolutely no doubt that the
People in Derbyshire today have heard about the exploits of Charles
Olivierre regarding Derbyshire Cricket .
Hell I never met George Headly ,
Victor Trumper , W.G.Grace ; Don Bradman etc , but I have read about
them , in Newspapers , the Internet; Magazines & Books .

How come we in the region, even people from SVG don't know about him?

Dude they are some players whose greatness, makes them historical figures.
Lord Constantine was on that tour, most of us know about him, and he played many years in England.
In reply to openning
No doubt thatwas due to the fact that
He never returned to St.Vincent . The
people in Derbyshire however passed down his Cricket exploits to the members of their families .
There are many current Vincentians , who have never heard of Alfie Roberts who was coached by Everton
Weeks , and played in a Test Series in New Zealand .
Many people in the Region never heard of Garnet Niles , who was a
very Good Wicket Keeper and Batsman
He never got a chance .
Then there was Bam Charles ,a Bowler from St. Lucia , He never got
a chance .
There was a Wicket Keeper from Dominica , who the visiting Team said was the best Wicket Keeper they
saw on their Tour to the Region .
I could cite Ian Neverson who carted
Freddie Truman & Statham to all parts of the Boundary in Grenada to the tune of 90 not out , he also never got a chance .
ALL THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE THE PEOPLE
IN WICBC AT THAT TIME PAID SCANT
ATTENTION TO PLAYERS FROM THE
WINDWARD & LEEWARD ISLANDS .
My belief is that if the above and
Others were given opportunities to
showcase & enhance their Skills ,
the current standard of Cricket in the Region would be much better than it currently is .
PEOPLE & PLAYERS FROM THE WINDWARD
& LEEWARD ISLANDS OWE A HUGE DEBT OF
GRATITUDE TO SIR FRANK WORRELL , WHO
REALIZED THAT IT WAS HIGH TIME TO
STOP THE B.S .
My belief is that this Stigma still
lingers in the WICBC . I can cite
Kenroy Peters ; who was allowed to
play in 1 Test Match in South Africa.
Imagine the freaking fact that at the U 19 Level in a 5 tests Series in England he was adjudged to be the
best Bowler in the Series .
BTW playing in that series was James
Anderson who is now the Best ever English Pace Bowler .

How did his regional performance compared to other bowlers over the years?
Anderson who is now the Best ever English Pace Bowler .
Is there a comparative system in SVG or the Windwards to develop youngsters?
We just don't have the same development program or academies like in other countries, that's one of the reasons our youngsters seem to be stuck after the U19 level.
Since Lara and Shiv, we produced Gayle
T&T and Barbados, has academies, with Lara stadium the only playing the region for indoor training.
BTW, Cave Hill also has indoor facilities, which is for students.

As I have stated several times in this
Forum . When Our Players dominated
International Cricket , the Members of Worst the Worst International
Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth aka the WICB .
Its Members sat on their collective
Asses and did nothing to ensure
that our Dominance in International Cricket would continue for a long time .
I have absolutely no doubt that THEY
could have got many Financial Sponsors :
SPONSORS LOVE TO ASSOCIATE THEIR
PRODUCTS WITH WINNERS , AND OUR
TEAMS & PLAYERS WERE WINNERS .
Look when I went to SVG , all the
Regional Tournaments had Sponsors .
They stopped being Sponsors , and WE
have absolutely no Idea why they
left .
Now if in the Region WE had Good Journalists , they would have gone to these Sponsors and ask the Sponsors why they stopped being Sponsors of the Regional Tournaments.
The sad thing is that in the Region
none of the so called Sports Journalists , rather than ask the
WICBC pertinent Questions , decided
to become willing tools of the WICBC; and in my opinion this unholy
alliance is at the heart of most problems regarding the Standard of
Cricket in the Region .
In my opinion the Governments in the
Region must not give the WICBC any money unless & until there is a completely new Regional Cricket Structure .
Those in this new Entity MUST understand that in this Era ; there
must be harmony between Our Players
and the Individual Cricket Boards &
the Regional Board .
IT IS HIGH TIME THAT WE STOP THIS
MASTERS & SERVANTS B.S .
That behaviour is partly responsible
for the Rift between Our Players &
the WICBC .
A HOUSE DIVIDED CAN NEVER LAST ,
THIS FREAKING FACT SEEMS TO HAVE
ESCAPED THE EMPERORS IN THE WICBC .
In reply to POINT
If we dwell on the past, it will be hard to move forward.
Regional boards has the opportunity to move our cricket forward
It is time for the Leewards and Windwards to join other Islands and go solo, allowing more players into the system

With all due Respect WE have to dwell in the Past to ensure that WE avoid
the mistakes that were made in the
Past .
Look at the freaking Fact that since its inception:
THE PEOPLE IN THE WICBC HAVE
BLUNTLY REFUSED TO CHANGE ITS
ARCHAIC STRUCTURE . ITS SEEMS THAT
THE CURRENT MEMBERS HAVE ABSOLUTELY
NO INTENTION TO CHANGE THE STRUCTURE
OF THE WORST INTERNATIONAL CRICKET
BOARD IN THE COMMONWEALTH .
Let me be very clear , the Past is
very important , because it allows US to see & understand what was wrong ,and make the necessary Changes to ensure that ALL OUR Players are fully competitive in ALL
aspects of the game , to ensure that
WE have competitive Teams in the
International Cricket Arenas .
WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE MONEY THAT
THE WICBC STATED IT HAD GAINED BY
HAVING THE WORLD CUP IN THE REGION ?
Quite frankly in my opinion ,the People in the WICBC need to be answerable to the Governments in the
Region due to their sloppy governance of West Indies Cricket .
Ido not have a problem with Governments giving the WICBC money ,
but in return the Governments in the
Region must have some input regarding the WICBC .
THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS A
FREAKING FREE LUNCH !!!!
Do me and the rest of the Mb, post the record of each of these outstanding players, I do not want your imagination to run wild, many posters here may think that you are misinterpreting these outstanding cricketers career and the WIB did not accept these great players from Vinceland.

WE have to learn from the mistakes WE
made in the Past so that WE do not
keep repeating them .
THE FREAKING FACT THAT THE WORST
INTERNATIONALCRICKET BOARD IN THE
COMMONWEALTH HAS BLUNTLY REFUSED TO
CHANGE ITS 1908 STRUCTURE .
In essence WE have tangible proof that WE have learned not one blasted
Thing . Quite frankly that is the Crux of the matter .
You cannot keeptreating Our Players
as Serfs and scant respect and then
expect them to be at the top of
International Cricket .
THERE MUST BE AT ALL TIMES
HARMONIOUS
RELATIONS BETWEEN THE WICBC & OUR
PLAYERS TO SEE GENUINE IMPROVEMENT .
Sadly this fact is lost on those in
the governance of West Indies Cricket . They and their many Serfs
in the Media are seemingly oblivious
to this freaking Fact .
