Pull Bravo and Roach for Paul and Pollard?

Slipfeeler 2019-05-15 12:59:47

There will always be dissatisfied fans with selection of any WI team, not surprisingly the WC team selection has drawn many criticism from fans. Both Bravo and Roach seem to struggling a bit during the warm-up matches. While some players perform well during the actual WC matches despite their prior individual struggles, that is of no comfort to fans eager for another West Indies WC win. They are now clamoring for both Roach, Bravo and possibly Allen replacement by Pollard and Paul. Although Allen is yet to be given an adequate run in order to substantiate any decision on his form going into the WC.

This reminds me of the poster who was calling for Thomas to replace Roach in the squad for the last test series against England. Was that you?

In reply to Walco … this cannot however be the same (context). Roach was taking wickets, so for some one to say that, they are either insular, dumb or both. His form will have people doubting him. But some how I feel Roach at half throttle during this series. Getting in match work in preparation.

Not too worried about Roach, once he's fit he will start in my team but Bravo on the other hand is really worrying.

does Roach record suggest he is a good ODI bowler? (genuine inquiry} By the way I will drop Gabriel before Roach because Roach can bat and he is a better fielder.

Who will you pull if the two are pull, and your two fail, knowing that Paul is still not 100%, and Pollard is a T20 specialist.

natty_forever 2019-05-15 14:14:51

In reply to methodic … no he has not, but his experience will be an asset in the WC.

Funny you don’t want to pull Fabian! lol lol

DIEHARD 2019-05-15 14:41:10

In reply to StumpCam

Fabian for me is one of them hunch players, I feel Pollard can add value to this team, but Ambris also on a hunch, for me, i'd select before Pollard..i think i could dump Carlos or Gabriel for Pollard though, more likely Gabriel.

My 2 changes to the current squad.

Bravo & Gabriel out for Pollard and Ambris.

Gabriel must play weare very short of bowling

Paul not 100%? Where did you get that from?

anthonyp 2019-05-15 15:05:12

In reply to DIEHARD

Gabriel gotta play.. he and Thomas should be in the playing XI we need extra pace on those flat England pitches.

The post that I am referring to was before the start of the England series and this post is before the start of the WC.

In reply to pariaman

Short of bowling?? Are you serious?

Russel is scheduled to bat at 6, and then 5 bowlers, how are we short of bowling?

Holder
Nurse
Roach
Cotterel
Thomas

Is how 7 - 11 is already looking, we only need to bowl 50 overs maximum and we would still have Brathwaite Allen and Gabriel in the hut, that squad is heavy on the bowling, not enough batting

natty_forever 2019-05-15 15:58:00

In reply to Walco … well then they had no evidence, now his Ireland form has us wondering. I am banking on his experience coming thru.

Slipfeeler 2019-05-15 15:58:23

In reply to Walco

Well we do need a pool of fast bowlers so as not to bowl one bowler to death, to avoid the risk of injuries and select bowlers based on specific pitches and match conditions. I think we now have a nice pool of fast bowlers, the tricky decision now is how do we utilize them on flat pitches in England? Bowlers like Paul, Pollard, Braithwaite, Holder or Big Bravo might be helpful, since their bowling skills are not based on raw pace.

They had evidence from the last test series in which he played, but nonetheless wanted Thomas to play instead of him

How dare you suggest that the man should consider pulling the partnership breaking specialist Fabian. You better apologize for such evil thoughts.

I would have big Bravo on my world cup squad and I would replace Lewis with Campbell. But it’s too late for that now because the World Cup squad has already been selected except for injury replacements.

DIEHARD 2019-05-15 18:24:23

Well Lewis, Lil B and Carlos need to get injured!

Then again from another post Re: Pollard

Anon06:
"A few overlooked facts regarding the debate on Pollard's possible selection: The Super50 was played in October (earlier than usual) to allow all "stars" to turn up and stake a claim to WI selection for the the Bangladesh and England ODI series, and from there, the WC. Pollard made 69 runs in 7 innings, averaging 9.85 and a SR of 88. Top score of 30. 5 sixes. Is he really worth it? Remember he averages under 26 after 101 ODIs. Selection for a WC should NOT be based on PSL and IPL performances
big grin

Slipfeeler 2019-05-18 10:41:57

In response to the writer of that post:

I beg to differ regarding IPL, for it provides an opportunity for our players to compete among players of world Class standard around the world. Are you saying that you prefer to select a player who have dominated our poor domestic league over a player who is currently playing or even dominating the IPL? Remember that one factor that led to the decline of WI test cricket was reduced opportunity for a large number of WI players to participate in the English Cricket league. The English successfully introduced that policy.
Despite what is written about Pollard, he tends to have that overwhelming presence on the field that many players from other teams respect.

Pollard is not a T20 specialist. He given the chance will show all you naysayers what he is. I am backing him to score heavily because he likes to "get in' before he begins to hit. 50 overs will help him in this style of his.
