Russell - where is

InHindsight 2019-05-16 11:51:49

the best place to bat him to get the most from him?

Do you bat him at say 5/6 where he may get out before he has the chance to use the firepower or we try to get maximum from the death hitting? Or further still do we float him depending on the situation?

Please express your thoughts.
I say this given the guys come together right into the WC not fully examining their best roles?

My thoughts:

Lewis and Gayle opens. Lewis be the main aggressor. Gayle plays the double role - bat deep and attack. He may just come will all guns blazing from ball one.

Hope does what he does best that is to bat long. When he does the outcome is usually a very good score.

Hetty you cannot curb his instinct. He plays he attacking game.

Bravo bats deep. We should not give Bravo the attacking role given his form and the way he plays

Pooran - naturally instinct. Can make space for a bowler

DreRuss the floater.

Holder

Rest of the bowlers

because we have no idea what his 50 over form with be like
he has to be flexible
based on current results we can assume that he'll give some good quick runs, but stabilizing an innings(top order job) is a question.

Before holder for quick runs, after for a stabilizing effort

How does Holder fit in into all this given that he's a decent hitter and needs time to get in before he does so? He to has ability to hang around if needed

In reply to InHindsight what you have highlighted is the need to be very flexible and not have one way of going about this thing, like saying Russell bats at 7 regardless of the situation. Our think Tank will be tested to the limit!

As I see it you bat him after Holder but he comes in based on the situation

Bravo is class, however with his current form, I just don't see how he fits in with a ODI team. England has changed ODI game over the last 4-5 years and Bravo now appears to be an anachronism in the modern game and will be a liability to WI given his current game.

We need Hope and one other player who can get busy and hold the innings together around the big hitters , but right now , that does not seem to be Bravo, I like the look of Ambris for that role.

I am really hoping he can re-work his game quickly !

Holder can stabilize an innings, as a matter of fact he can be a good start to the big hitting in those circumstances
Big hitting is never a guarantee, we need to have russell batting when the pressure is the least, better chance of him getting a good score if the opponent is under pressure before he comes in

Holder and Russell have to flex, depending on the situation. You could have Holder and Russell in anywhere from 5 to 7, if Pooran's in the XI then the flexibility extends even further.

No quarreld with Bravo not being in the 11, but that is only after we give him some more games to get his form pre WC ie up till the warmups
