HEADLINE: Archer snubbed at CPL draft

CaribbeanCricket.com May 24, 2019, 3:18:45 PM

Eyebrows have been raised around the region after several high-profile players failed to find a home during yesterday’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) draft in London.

Leading the list of notable Caribbean absentees for the upcoming season were Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo and Kevon Cooper.

The case of Simmons is particularly surprising as things seem to have spun in a 180-degree direction. Only a few months ago the player was selected as the first pick of the 2018 draft for the St Lucia Stars.

Is it about the best ability or best value and affordability?

cricketmad May 24, 2019, 5:25:05 PM

Maybe they see Archer as a traitor .

Archer would have to be bought as a foreign player ain't?

All first round picks are 160k

Udana was picked in the first round. Archer was in the first round bracket as well

This don't make any sense at all. Archer would likely be one of the best bowlers in the whole CPL. Unbelievable he wasn't picked

No....not at all. But archiw will have to deal with caribbean bad blood for some time. I could tell you for sure he would be booed the minute he stepped to and from the QPO turf. If its one crowd has no problem with oing it's us

TheTrail May 24, 2019, 9:24:26 PM

Just like how allyuh burn an effigy of Garfield Sobers at QPO eh?

When push comes to shove, Barbados will never neglect their own.

Big bad QPO

Gayle was booed in Jamaica when he was with the Patriots I can imagine the reception the Bajan Englishman would get at Sabina,

TheTrail May 24, 2019, 10:50:41 PM

County cricket starts in April and finishes in September 2019.

CLP T20 cricket finished in September 2019.

Go figure

Exactly...and the CPL figures is not enough to lure Archer away from county cricket.

spider May 25, 2019, 12:29:14 PM

In reply to mikesiva

So did he make himself available for the draft?

Sobers was just being nice and sweet to the white man as most Bajans are, that declaration was the stupidest declaration in test cricket up to that date.

Don't forget WI was also a major bowler short,Sobers knew exactly what he did and why.

Exactly what? He put his name in the hat so he knew what the money was. The headline is on the spot, he was snubbed!!

One of the best things about knowing the FACTS is reading others OPINIONS.

Always good for a laugh or two......

big grin

Probably just trying a thing as a back-up...I doubt Archer was too disappointed not to be picked.

cool
Has any county player ever chosen the CPL over their current county contract? Alex Hales has said he wants to focus on becoming a T20 specialist, especially since he was dropped from their England ODI side for failing a drugs test. But Jordan wants to play all three forms of the game in England. It's been two years since Hales played a FC match for his county, while Archer still plays FC cricket for Sussex. In addition, the Ashes will be played in England in September, and Archer entertains hopes of making the England Test team, so there's no way the ECB would allow him to play in the CPL. Sussex also has a busy schedule in September, and they also wouldn't let Archer go.

I suspect the CPL teams knew this....

Aside from Hales the T20 specialist, any other Englishman playing CPL?

Laurie Evans

mikesiva May 26, 2019, 8:53:33 AM

In reply to newdread

Who?

I never heard of him so I had to look him up.
lol
It turns out he's a white ball specialist who's only played something like just two FC matches for Sussex. So, it seems likely that Sussex can do without Evans in September. But they will want Archer available for September.

But you're the big guy who runs this business. Do tell us who's right and wrong.
cool
I'm sure you're not saying that CPL owners think Evans is a better t20s player than Archer.
