If a man murdered someone....

black 2019-06-12 14:39:51

when he was 19 years old and got away with that crime and went on to live and exemplary lifestyle with a wife, kids and grandkids.

Would you put that person in prison, if he was caught 40 years later?

What is it was 60 years later?

Would it make a difference?

Kay 2019-06-12 15:36:47

If a person can be exonerated 40 years after being jailed based on new evidence or advanced technology, then the opposite should apply based on the same criteria .....

Bigzinc 2019-06-12 15:40:48

In reply to black

no difference...even 1 hundred.. Nazi war criminals are still being prosecuted if found...

again...is the victim's life worthless...

ask yourself this, what if the victim was a friend, child, parent, sibling

Rudeman 2019-06-12 15:59:38

That person could have changed identity.

Someone with knowledge of the crime finally came forward.

Better cold case investigators.

Overlooked evidence.

DNA or perp is finally found...

black 2019-06-12 16:58:55

In reply to Bigzinc

Yes, I have seen cases where DNA went back twenty-something years but 40 years is a long time.

It's possible with properly preserved evidence.

In reply to black Shoite! Bai, you & I should be pals! Almost, everyday, I have to watch atmost 1 episode. I think, I have seen them all. When that particular episode is on, I re-watch it. I have, even, got my wife to watch it! I just like American law enforcement's dogged approach - them detectives dont give up, boi. They pass on cases to the incoming young fellas, when they retire!!!

cool

DNA in forensics started in the 80s..

So..I ask again...standards of evidence in a 40 year old crime?

It's only a confession that can work.

black 2019-06-13 13:11:34

In reply to DAVE400

.

Evidence collection and rape kits did not start in the 80s.

It's a stretch to extract DNA from 40 years ago but I've seen real cases where DNA was extracted from 20 plus years ago.

It's only a confession that can work.

I've seen several cases where murder (of pilice officers in some cases) were family secrets until someone got tired of keeping secrets and revealed all.

DAVE400 2019-06-13 14:10:24

You gone from murder to rape kit?

Steups.

What form of DNA evidence prior to DnA in forensics can you conceive here?

black 2019-06-13 14:19:44

In reply to DAVE400

Women are often raped and then murdered.

What form of DNA evidence prior to DnA in forensics can you conceive here?

There are CODIS, AFIS and other evidence gathering techniques.

Not being caught could be a simple as not being in the system.

it depends a lot on if the person that got killed needed killing

Given the high number of unsolved murders, its quite possible that we are on a daily
basis rubbing shoulders with murderers who are now "outstanding" members of society.

Bigzinc 2019-06-13 19:35:50

In reply to Benjie

Some of the biggest mass murderers were upstanding pillars of society....

they can be presidents, prime ministers, kings, queens etc etc etc

If this forum is big enough, I would be will be willing to bet that there are murderers, rapists and pimps on here. lol

I know. I am not necessarily referring to those who authorized murders or presided over the killing of innocent folks. I am referring to persons who physically used their own hands and killed someone. Its frightening to know that these folks are literally hidden in plain sight. They are our friends and relatives. If only the dead could talk.
