when he was 19 years old and got away with that crime and went on to live and exemplary lifestyle with a wife, kids and grandkids.
Would you put that person in prison, if he was caught 40 years later?

If a man murdered someone....
In reply to black
yes
Not sure
In reply to black
yes.. is the victim life worthless???
In reply to Bigzinc
What is it was 60 years later?
Would it make a difference?
In reply to black
If a person can be exonerated 40 years after being jailed based on new evidence or advanced technology, then the opposite should apply based on the same criteria .....
In reply to black
no difference...even 1 hundred.. Nazi war criminals are still being prosecuted if found...
again...is the victim's life worthless...
ask yourself this, what if the victim was a friend, child, parent, sibling
Hell Yes murder is murder no statute of limitation.
In reply to Rudeman
True, but what about probation or other remedies?
In reply to black
No...
In reply to black
Yes !!!!#@#**^/^
What would be the smoking gun evidence not available 40 years ago?
In reply to DAVE400
That person could have changed identity.
Someone with knowledge of the crime finally came forward.
Better cold case investigators.
Overlooked evidence.
In reply to black
DNA or perp is finally found...
In reply to Bigzinc
Yes, I have seen cases where DNA went back twenty-something years but 40 years is a long time.
It's possible with properly preserved evidence.
In reply to black
When are you going off to prison? Whatever you do, dont drop the soap
In reply to carl0002
I was not planning on going to prison.
In reply to carl0002
big grin big grin big grin
In reply to black
Black, today is not the day for a confession. OK?
In reply to Fantom
Shhhhhh!!!
I'm trying to get advice for nitro.
Fellas, look at Forensic Files's episode, The ghosts of El Segundo or Marked for Life....very fitting for this thread.
In reply to BeatDball
I think I've seen every episode of forensic files.
In reply to black
In reply to black Shoite! Bai, you & I should be pals! Almost, everyday, I have to watch atmost 1 episode. I think, I have seen them all. When that particular episode is on, I re-watch it. I have, even, got my wife to watch it! I just like American law enforcement's dogged approach - them detectives dont give up, boi. They pass on cases to the incoming young fellas, when they retire!!!
In reply to BeatDball
I now watch cold case files on the justice channel. I've seen just about all episodes of that.
In reply to BeatDball
Ah criminal is ah criminal, there ain't no Democrat criminal and Repub criminal....
Except for Trump.
DNA in forensics started in the 80s..
So..I ask again...standards of evidence in a 40 year old crime?
It's only a confession that can work.
In reply to DAVE400
Evidence collection and rape kits did not start in the 80s.
It's a stretch to extract DNA from 40 years ago but I've seen real cases where DNA was extracted from 20 plus years ago.
I've seen several cases where murder (of pilice officers in some cases) were family secrets until someone got tired of keeping secrets and revealed all.
You gone from murder to rape kit?
Steups.
What form of DNA evidence prior to DnA in forensics can you conceive here?
In reply to DAVE400
Women are often raped and then murdered.
There are CODIS, AFIS and other evidence gathering techniques.
Not being caught could be a simple as not being in the system.
In reply to black
it depends a lot on if the person that got killed needed killing
In reply to methodic
The law does not work like that.
In reply to black
the question is would I put him in prison.
In reply to black
the law often don't work
In reply to black
by the way, good topic
By the way, I totally agree with everyone that answered, yes.
Given the high number of unsolved murders, its quite possible that we are on a daily
basis rubbing shoulders with murderers who are now "outstanding" members of society.
In reply to Benjie
Some of the biggest mass murderers were upstanding pillars of society....
they can be presidents, prime ministers, kings, queens etc etc etc

If this forum is big enough, I would be will be willing to bet that there are murderers, rapists and pimps on here.
In reply to Bigzinc
I know. I am not necessarily referring to those who authorized murders or presided over the killing of innocent folks. I am referring to persons who physically used their own hands and killed someone. Its frightening to know that these folks are literally hidden in plain sight. They are our friends and relatives. If only the dead could talk.
