Lara is a biggest pretender and failure in World Cricket. He is just good at dead rubber matches.
He is never in the league of Sachin Tendulkar or Ponting. Tendulkar scored above 600 runs in 1996 WC and 2003 WC. He even scored bulk of runs in 2011 WC. Same can be said about Ponting. They never let their team down when needed. Coming to Lara he failed in every tournament, he has pathetic record to be called one of the world's best. For example if we take 2019 world cup every top player of this generation Kohli, Smith, Williamson are stepping up in every game. It is what world class players do even in pressure situation.
Lara is the biggest failure and he cannot be called a cricketing great.

ABD scored 418 runs at an ave of 96.40/SR 144 IN 2015 including scoring 65 off 45 for his team in the semifinal where they got knocked out.Was the 3rd highest scorer in the WC as well after Guptil and Sanga.
Not sure how that constitutes failure.

Even if we go to 70s even then West Indies wins were fluke. Luckily they won the first 2 WCs where as they were exposed by minnow Indian team in 3rd world cup. From then on rest is history. Their ass is kicked in every tournament and fans kept on bragging about 70s. They never had talent and everything was about cowlashing by Viv and co.
