I read about a quarter so far. It is clarifying a lot of what I read earlier.
At the personal level it also explains some common 'Asiatic' features among folks from the John Crow Mountain region in Portland. Your explanation of the preference by Jamaican slave owners for Akan (Coromante) slaves unlike the slave owners in the Eastern Caribbean is illuminating and interesting.
I wonder if the preference was related to the prevalence of absentee ownership. Maybe if the owners as opposed to the overseers were living in Ja the preference might have been tempered.
Will keep reading as my schedule allows.

Here it is for anyone else whos interested
After the Treaties: A Social, Economic and Demographic History of Maroon Society in Jamaica, 1739-1842
I suspect Jamaican planters were split. Maybe half of them thought the Akan/Coromantees were healthier and hard-workers, and wanted them instead of the Igbo. Maybe the other half feared the Akan/Coromantees, suspecting them of being warlike and rebellious.
