Wheaties Box

It’s the most important meal of the day, and she’s known as the greatest female tennis player to play the game, so how is it possible we’re just now celebrating Serena Williams getting her own Wheaties box?

As it turns out, Williams is only the second black female tennis player to grace a box of Wheaties and only the fourth female tennis player of all time, following Chris Evert and Alice Marble. In 2001, General Mills paid tribute to the legendary Althea Gibson, one of Williams’ well-known influences, but it would take nearly another two decades for them to honor Williams, who is widely recognized as the “GOAT.”

“I am so excited to be on the cover of the next Wheaties box,” Williams said in a statement on the General Mills blog. “I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman and it’s an honor to join the ranks of some of America’s most decorated athletes. I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.”

That sure took long

I have a rooting interest in Sports...not so in life....Wheaties owes Serena nothing.

If Wheaties was a nobody the narative would be they exploiting her for sales....

Same people who are adamant the US should not interfere with the goings on of other Nations or Nationals want to tell a private entity when it is appropriate to market their product.

Sehrinuh never ate Whities or she would have not been tantrum prone.

As usual, you miss (or deny) the whole cultural significance, just to make the point that you can have a contrarian view.

The Wheaties Box and the Why of Celebrity Endorsements

How Wheaties Set the Gold-Medal Standard for Sports Endorsements - so why not Serena?

Guess who would next want their image on a Wheaties Box|? I swear Donald Trump - The World’s Greatest Liar.

Cultural significance or not it is still a business and still marketing.

The reason they started this marketing initiative was to sell cereal...it is still their foremost endeavor.

There are reasons they choose their subjects...you can choose to delude yourself all you want.

It is still a private business making marketing decisions....

Are you or Chrissy going to buy a box?

Tennis had largely lost it's appeal in the US. Not to mention the number of times Serena has probably disqualified herself due to on Court behavior that they would not want to seem as if they were rewarding.

Give me a break with YOUR contrarian view mired in racism and politics.

BTW .. I notice you are yet to say anything about Booticieg...or whatever his name is in regards to that town Hall that got real!

WHERE IS YOUR OPINION?

YOU CAN SIT HERE AND CHAT NONSENSE AD NAUSEUM about all the garbage Politics that the establishment feeds you...but when real people voice real concern about real issues thaT AFFECT THEIR LIVES then everybody silent!

Just a mouthpiece for partisan Politics and it's propaganda...but no answers to real problems!

joker!

I don't eat cereal - never did.
don't know how anyone can tolerate corn flakes or any of the rest of that crap

I spat out porridge early - yuck!
Granola is the exception.

Same with me actually...

Then what is the issue...you are not their target audience but you want them to please you?

Cultural significance means things and people who resonate culturally...for as good as Serena is, her sport does not resonate with the American people, plus her baggage.

Be happy they decided to honor her anyway.
