Invest in TT corporations that do business in Guyana and will directly benefit from the growth. Republic Bank, Massy, TCL come to mind. Do your research.
Good News, but will the common man see some improvement in their lives from it, or will the money end up in Luxury homes in Florida?
In reply to VIX
Some little-known T&T specialists giants down there directly pumping the oil..many already cashing-in big on this project, millions of USD done coming to T&T,let's hope Guyana seek it's interest as well as all others are...
Clearly Guyana has plenty room for growth but a lot of that growth would just take it up to acceptable standards in many metrics..I hope they know they must leverage the industry in many ways to become sustainable.
A good idea would be to open up eco-tourism and good ole river, waterfalls and bush life vibes with cottages etc..the Expats alone from the petro activity would help empower that sector.
The financial sector must also be bolstered, although T&T banks already controlling the banking sector,Gov't supported indigenous banks could also make an impact as they did in T&T..
Then there's manufacturing, plenty opportunities there if properly facilitated by Gov't.. I remember as a kid my parents picking up subsidy cheques and other incentives from Gov't programs empowering local small business and facilitating and fine tuning incentives for growth across the board hence our vibrant manufacturing sector which has buffered us over the last few years, hope they taking note and make the best of this opportunity,Guyana is a good place to plant a foot right now as it's still early...
if you believe Guyana's current economy is not propped up by the drug trade, well..
In reply to maj
Yes but this is growth due to the new oil activity..
In reply to bravos
yes i know..i know someone who works for Ramps..they supply Exxon's rigs. they are doing well and other logistic companies are trying to gain a foot hold. many sectors of the economy are booming. especially the hotel sector, the "white elephant" Marriott is doing well even though the project was maligned by the government.
But drugs is still a major player in Guyana.
In reply to maj
Yaall still play cricket, am thinking of coming out of retirement.
In reply to Runs
Next year I'm out of retirement too.

Ramps gone clear, hundred millions + dem alone clockin ! Yeah but Guyanese gotta step up too,in all sectors..and I'm sure they are..others are ahead at the moment though and that's normal for a country now coming into wealth and it's only Gov't policy can help make the transition just like in T&T,most things here were foreign controlled until the Gov't of the day empowered the business sector leveraging the oil wealth..and then later transforming the business sector and the economy yet again this time with the gas wealth..You gotta be able to bob and weave..
Guyana needs to do the same...
Does Guyana have a national policy on the expected oil windfall?
In reply to bravos
Policy? They fighting for who shall govern.
Check who was in this same position a few times as a country the world hardly knew about.. Guyana and Jamaica popped up too, what went wrong ?
Anyway enjoy Guyana, leh we see yuh ! We comin fuh piece!!

All my Guyanese woman experiences have been wonderful ..they sound like Yankee chicks at times (haRRdeRRR!),and fraid the timber at other times...but good wholesome old fashion vibes with them...they care about the welfare of de ting, kinda remind me of wifey lol,it sweet dey like it like cook food and damn it was good "buh wah yuh tink it is,you not mashing dis up today yuh know,it have tomorrow " !! I know dem well..
In reply to jala
Allyuh will learn the hard way
In reply to Runs
But that's de man for de job,his resume is as good as any experienced Trini in the field..Houston, Houston,Africa,Houston,Asia,Middle-East etc Houston!! That's the biggest professional range right there..
In reply to bravos
Yep but it is jokey Guyana where they have no respect for anyone
In reply to Runs
Forget the BS from bobolee bravos , he knows nutting about the Oil business.
T&T cannot run an Oil refinery , it doesn't have the necessary technical help. Petro Trin will lose 2 billion dollars per year if it continued.
It will now be lease to a foreign entity and they will make a profit. Exxon will pump the oil in tankers, the natural gas in floating trains and ship it to its Houston facilities. here it will be processed. Just came back from Texas.
Guyana has no say in the matter !!!!
The work given to Guyana is like the Foreign Gold mining companies very little.
Just ignore bobolee , just another hot air Trini that brags a lot.
In reply to Runs
Bhai, you coming out of retirement to play cricket?
I hope so.
Hope Bravos also coming out of retirement and post some pics.
US ambassador says high taxation, crime, corruption impedes Guyana.
Places like Iran and the West Bank and Gaza ranked better than Guyana, Lynch said.
She further said, Some of the contributing issues highlighted in the report include taxation, energy, infrastructure, intellectual property rights (IPR), bureaucracy, lack of transparency, corruption and citizen security.

She is just furthering american polices here, note taxation (since the guyanese authorities say they gonna revise the rates on exxon). Also note the intellectual property rights inclusion to further the MPAA profits. Also why Iran in the comparison and not Saudi Arabia?
Bunch of hypocrites
