were Jeff Dujon and Brian Lara and Carl Hooper all three used their feet to the spinning ball. Do these of present think no footwork is vital for scoring against tight spin bowling just lead feet swinging to clear the boundary and beyond.

Best Players of Spin I've Seen Play For Us
In reply to Raggs
Padams
In reply to XDFIX
as in the name more pad than bat
In reply to Raggs
Lara was a beauty to watch. Sarwan was decent too if I recall correctly...
In reply to Raggs
Perhaps before your time but Rohan Kanhai right up there with the best too.
In reply to CricSham
he finished up at the start of my viewing.
In reply to CricSham
If you mention Kanhai, you shouldn't leave out Kallicharan.
Check out a young Shiv against Warne
In reply to Khaga
he said who he saw
he is a springchicken
lol
Kali was among the best of them, if not the best
I was lucky to see tailend of Kallis career and he was the best I saw
Short batsmen look good playing spin...lots of nimble footwork
Kalli were the best I have seen
Lara was a genius
But I tell alyuh....Clive Lloyd used to murder spin bowling
saw Kalli and Rowe bat but as a youth of 8 to 10 yrs old. you don't really understand the technique that graphically.
In reply to CricSham
Thanks Mr. Sham for reminding the grandkids. When Kanhai played that forward defensive stroke his bat seemed to be "Broada Dan Broadway"
In reply to Narper
I can't remember spin troubling him. Gomes was very good at taking ones and twos off spin
In reply to CricSham
Yep
Lara made runs in Asia?
I saw one innings live on tv where WIndians didnt have to accuse Murali of pelting, as Lara murdered him.
Kanhai and Kalli also.
Lloyd was awkward many a time but made use of his God given features, like his height and feet to get to the pitch.
Rowe got LBW by Black Jack for a few only when Jamaica played us at Bourda but looked sweet, sweet.
In reply to Raggs
best player of spin ever was lara
In reply to goofballs
Lara failed against India ,relatively speaking..
In reply to CWWeekes
When Kalli played that forward defensive, he killed the spin so much that the ball tolls back towards his stumps.
I think he got out like that once but in many occasions had to scurry to push the ball away as it trickled towards his stumps.
In reply to Khaga
And other than kumble......who was india then. Spent the entire 90s in the lower table with england and zim
In reply to Jumpstart
Even Raju toyed with him..
In reply to Khaga
And brett lee gave slow poke shiv concussion. swear de man was dead
In reply to Jumpstart
So?
In reply to Khaga
my response exactly when you say lara struggled vs india....as i said, a team that spent the 90s in the cellar with england and zimbabwe
In reply to Jumpstart
We are talking about WI batsmen against spin, right?
In reply to Chrissy
Just reminding the young uns Chrissy
In reply to CWWeekes
True dat Mr. Weekes Saw him a few times but I particularly remember against England at Bourda Against Berkinshaw. Berkinshaw had just sent back Lawrence Rowe and Kalli two of the finest players of spin. When the babulal step down the pavilion step my brother-in-law handed me the peepers and said check the Babu face. He bex no rass. The first ball from Berkinshaw the Babu using his feet crushed him tru covers. Later in the over a not a man move square cut left tongues hanging. And then the forward defense bat and pad close together Batting sweet for days.
Holding used to scare spinners they raised a white flag and ran from him at Sabina Park
Tall guys like Sobers and Lloyd used to cause problems for spinners. Roston Chase plays spin relatively well by using his height appropriately.
In reply to CricSham
Kalli got bowled from outside leg stump or going for an on drive?
I remember watching from behind him in South Stand.
In reply to goofballs
My friend we talking over 40 years ago! I remember Rowe playing his signature late cut for four and then tried to repeat it and got bowled I think Kalli got beaten in flight. He stepped out to drive could have been an on drive but again Im going from memory here.
Among those I watched,Hooper was the best in picking the spinners and the technique he used to play them. He was very successful in India and Pakistan.
Ofcourse Lara scored way more runs and against the best spinners of the day Murali and Warne.
In reply to Khaga
Carl was a joy to watch. Few batsmen I will travel any where to see. He's one of them
In reply to Raggs
there is no match for Brian when it comes to spin bowling.
In reply to Narper
What about Viv...he assaulted spinners with frequency.
Kanhai, Kalli, Lara, viv, , Hoops..
I would imagine Sobers would have been pretty good at any type of bowling.
In reply to CricSham
There was a game against Australia where Hooper tore the tail out of Warne. Was absolutely delightful.
In reply to Raggs
Viv Richards was one of the best West Indian batsmen I saw against spin. He refused to let the spinners dictate to him. Conversely, his approach was to be aggressive and dominate against spin.
In reply to CricSham
Bhai, I was just hoping you could jog my memory a bit!
I think Kanhai came in later and kept things quiet.
Rain fell later that day or probably a different match but Kanhai killed out the spin till close of play then (also).
In reply to Fivestar
Brian Lara just went out deh and beat spinners up on any damn track, spinning or not a spinning wicket. I remember a South Africa spinner bowling to him on his test debut and Lara killed de man career before the poor lads cricketing whites got dirty. He was a beast to dem poor spinners. I remember a test series in the Caribbean when he beat up Shane Warne till dem drop that Ozzie stunt.
In reply to Raggs
Viv Richards and Chandrasekhar had their first round in India in 1974. Chandrasekhar got Richards' wicket 3 times during the five Test series. Richards scored one century, one half century and averaged 50 throughout the series.
The second round was in the Caribbean two years later. Chandrasekhar got Richards' wicket once in four Test matches. Richards scored three centuries, one half century and averaged 92.
I'll let you decide who came out on top in the head-to-head battle between Viv Richards and Chandrasekhar.
Lara killed de best spinners of his time, Murali, Warne, Kaneria, McGill tuh name ah few. Des fellas gave other batsmen HELL. Lara silenced dem. Warne and Kaneria talked about it.
Sanga said when wicketkeeping tuh Murali, Lara was de only batsman tuh handle Murali.
Kumble was de only spinner tuh hold his own against Lara.
Not sure if anyone mentioned Viv, but Viv was pretty good against spin.
Hooper was sublime.
Kali was good too.
In reply to Raggs
Robin Peterson, Lara took him for 28 runs in an over his first test
In reply to Cornfused
I wont forget that name because of B Lara
I watched it
I forget important passwords but not that victim of bcl
David Murray and Alvin Greenidge were excellent players of spin. Under the 1974 tour of India Murray was very much in line to make the rest team as a batsman based on his scores in the preliminary matches. Both players used their feet extremely well.
In reply to Cornfused
Didn't Lara take down Kaneira also for about 24-28 runs in one over in Pakistan?
In reply to Trinidave
I agree with your assessments
