The age, time and successes of Jimbo Cornwall begin in reality. The irrepressible Leeward Islands Hurricanes spin-bowling all-rounder, Rahkeem Cornwall.

Watch out for Anmolpreet Singh. Phenom batsman.

Rahul Chahar is a decent leggie who can bat as well.

Washington Sundar is a younger Roston Chase, better with both bat and ball.

Ishan Kishan can bat in the top order and keep wicket - poor man's Nicholas Pooran.

Avesh Khan and Navdeep Saini are the nextgen Indian pacers - bit raw, but plenty of potential.

Everybody knows about Shubman Gill already.

solidrock 2019-07-05 12:43:42

Really good Indian players for Jimbo to warm up against as he prepares to play his first two test matches in August-Sept.

Boss, what is your fascination with Cornwall? Are you a relative or his agent? Why are you sticking your neck out on the line for this player? We are not talking about a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination, yet you are on a crusade acting like this guy will be our savior. He will get his chance and I hope he does well.

All over hyped.

India have 4 or 5 exceptional players in their current first team squad that does the business every time plus one or two very promising young bucks.

There is nothing I've seen in the reserves or the IPL or anything else that tells me that all the others don't hide behind the great Kohli, Bumrah et. al.

What's even a younger better Roston Chase? Steupse. Let some of these lads come and play in our dysfunctional setups and see how good they are.

I just made those comparisons to give you folks a bit of an idea as to what type of players these are.

Washington Sundar is good enough with the bat to open the batting in First Class Cricket. And has opened the bowling for his IPL team in the finals.

As to your opinion on the quality of India reserves - I guess we'll see how this touring squad does - although its a bit unfortunate that young Prithvi Shaw will not be playing the ODIs.

I fully expect the likes of Virat, Rohit, Bumrah to be rested for the main India tour on the heels of this 'A' tour. You'll find out how the 'others' perform, when they can't "hide" behind the handful of stars. cool

hawk 2019-07-06 11:40:51

perhaps we should focus on how our boys should play as oppose to whom they are playing, all this hyping up the opposition......

WICFan 2019-07-06 11:56:14

What's everyone's XI for the 1st ODI?

Campbell
Ambris
Carter
Dowrich
Chase

When is it ever an issue on a sports site for a user to hype a player up?

In reply to WICFan

I had Riefer in for Carter.

Campbell
Ambris
Dowrich
Chase
Powell
Rutherford
Cornwall
Paul
Reifer
Pierre
Shepherd

Agreed. Better balanced team with Reifer in for Carter. I hope that Campbell gets a bowl so that we can see how he fares against good competition. I hope that Rutherford, if picks, learns from the self destruction of Hetmeyer and tries to bat sensibly.

BeatDball 2019-07-07 14:26:48

Why are people mentioning JC & not JB? I would like to know. Fool stop.
confused

DIEHARD 2019-07-07 17:00:05

In reply to BeatDball

Because JB is not in the ODI squad, the squads have already been picked.

JB should be in the four day squad, unsure if he is, i myself was wondering whats happened to his FC and test career.

The only issue is that Rocky's hyping will fan the flames of backlash if and when the player in question fails. The knives will come out with extra venom after each misfield or dropped catch or two runs that should’ve been three while batting. Not to mention opposing batsman turning singles into twos or twos into threes when balls are struck to Cornwall. Not saying that the knives would not be out anyway, but there will be extra venom because of the overhyping by Rocky and others on this board.

No, I am neither a relative or agent for Jimbo. I simply recognize great talent and potential when I see it. I am grateful that he finally is being given a fair shake (I believe). Let him succeed on the cricket field or misuse the opportunity. Let cricket speak for itself and stop this foolishness about "hiding him on the field" or some other smart comment.

I always have a laugh when a selector named Browne dropped Rampaul for how he looked on TV and not for his bowling,Cornwall springs to mind.I'll say no more.

Do you realize that Browne arranged for Cornwall to travel to a one-month program in the United States a few years ago that resulted in Cornwall losing 30 pounds? This was after the fat-shaming meted out to Cornwall by Pollard in that CPL match. After the program in the United States ended Cornwall was told that CWI would send him back to the same program the following year if he continued to show progress with his fitness. I don't think Cornwall made it back to that program the following year, but hopefully he was sent there recently.

As soon as Cornwall does magnificently in the A tour and then introduces himself well to test cricket...simply say I did not know he was that good. I will not ask for your apology! big grin big grin
