Has there been a successful Caribbean coach ever

dayne 2019-07-05 17:04:35

It might be bad luck, bad coincidence or bad timing, but in the 2019 WC, the three worst teams all have Caribbean born head coaches, when last have the Caribbean produced an international successful coach? Is the Caribbean failing on all levels of cricket?

No to the thread title and yes to your last question ….

Your question(s) can be considered as loaded.

Are you insinuating that hiring Simmons as the new WI Head Coach is 'tainted' because he happens to be the presiding head Coach over the last placed Afghans?

LOL, that was some interpretation to the questions.

The next question in that case, why do people expect the West Indies National Coach have to be from the Caribbean?

Rohan Kanhai?

Well it could also lead to the question, is WI cricket not progressing because there are no effective coaches available to convey what is necessary for progress?

Pretorius to Warner, OUT, that's a stunner! Long-on was brought in specifically for this over, Morris, Superman Morris, plucks a magical catch running sideways at mid-on. Warner looks to belt this length ball over mid-on, hits it very well but Morris is just a tad too tall as he moves well to his left and times his jump to perfection to pluck that. Trust me that was travelling. What a knock from Warner though!

Who can coach Cornwall to do this? I guess he can jump, but afterwards?
sad

Define a successful coach. Define an international successful coach.

I'll say we have quite a bit of good bowling coaches. Not probably head coach material...

If we are looking to coach at this level we dead.

natty_forever 2019-07-07 12:36:35

I feel the other teams coaches are not coaching line and length without it being specific to each batsman. And highlighting the strengths of bowlers to our batters. Yes correct flaws crèping in. But if we not looking to have the complete package by the time the player is 19 ... all that will be missing is experience, then I think we could change heads 'til thy kingdom come.

I remembered once one of the foreign coaches ( an Australian ) saying about the WI players, that some of techniques most Australian U19 players knew, most of the newly selected WI players to the Test never heard about those techniques , he had to show them, so definitely the WI players need coaches.

coaching is needed at the level below WI representation, hiring a multimillion dollar coach and having him living in Barbados or Antigua is not money well spent.
