The irony: I wouldn't be too sad if test cricket died

To whom were these words attributed?

I do not share that perspective ,here
is why ; Test matches are akin to
Marathons in Athletics . It is the Gold Standard in International Cricket.

It is the oldest of the 3 versions of the game ; and like the Marathon , it
tests Players Stamina ; Concentration ; Endurance and the ability to emerge Victorious .

Obviously it is in my opinion , the
Gold Standard in International Cricket to compare Great Players of
Yesteryears with current Players .

In essence Players who played Test
Matches , can only be compared to other Players who played Test Matches .

The lynchpin is that THEY cannot be
compared to Players who have played
One Day Matches & 20/20 matches ; due to the fact that in their Playing days those versions of the game were nonexistent .

So the gist is that a comparison can
be made say of Len Hutton & Brian Lara , never mind the fact that they
played in different Eras .

I cite this to illustrate that it is
only in the longest version of the game do We have not only a linkage with the Past , but can also make some sort of Comparison .

In essence I seriously doubt that
Test Cricket is going to die . The
English cherish their History ; They
can tell Visitors what places the
Romans lived in England . They also
do not destroy their Old Buildings .

That sort of mentality that exists in England will definitely ensure that Test Matches will always be with US .

As long as Tests and their prestige is limited to a handful of nations, the format is utterly flawed. Love Test Match cricket, but the format must adjust or become a relic.

You make some interesting points.

I recently went to your beautiful island UNION. Some of the guys there knows you personally.

I wanted to go over to Mustique to enjoy a little bit of Macaroni Beach and to visit the fruit stalls at Britannia Bay but your buddies said they are not allowed to go there.

FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME LET ME

AGAIN STATE A FREAKING FACT ;MUSTIQUE

IS A PRIVATELY OWNED ISLAND .

Persons from mainland SVG work,there
There are I believe certain Areas
that are Private to the General Public . The late Princess Margaret , the Queen's Sister owns a House there , that has its own beach .

Members of the Royal Family sometimes go there in the Winter
Months ; last year Prince William &
his Family went there .

Obviously that area is restricted ,
I have been at pains to inform You
that Sometimes there are Excursions
that go to Mustique from the mainland , Obviously they go to a beach .

However I have no doubt that they
are not allowed to go to all the Beaches . I do not intend giving You
a response about Mustique again ; It seems that your light is getting dim.

This where I think Gayle went wrong.

The man was on the verge of scoring an unprecedented 3rd triple ton, and walked away from it.

Sure he's occupying a place in the exclusive and coveted double triple club, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Don Bradman, Brian Lara, and his buddy Sehwag, but could've established a club all by himself.

At his age, coupled with the reluctance or the inability to run sharp singles, even the occasional twos, there is absolutely no hope left for him to accomplish what he foolishly (or unwittingly) walked away from when in his prime.

Test Matches are already Limited , due to the fact that mainly only Countries
that are in the Commonwealth Play
Cricket .

I do not believe that this tradition
is going to die ; so whether WE like
it or not I do not believe its demise
is at hand .

The International Teams get money
money from the ICC , help sustain them Financially ; and in addition
Hosts Teams also earn money from the
sale of Tickets when visiting Teams
play matches vs Host Countries .

jacksprat 2019-07-10 12:03:29

Gayle should just gracefully walk away. Misplaced nostalgia can only carry you so far!

What is the big deal of playing a test match in front of a "crowd" comprising a couple dozen pensioners when one is used to playing in front of tens of thousands spectators in the various T20 leagues?

GO GENTLY INTO THE GOOD NIGHT, GAYLE

In your absence, I can just imagine all these retirees fighting to stay awake as the likes of Brathwaite plays his 32 versions of the same defensive prod to virtually every delivery!!

"A DIS DE PEOPLE DEM REALLY GWINE COME FI SEE?"

Maybe, just maybe, all Gayle wants is to pay one last visit to the party stand.

Sorry, he won't have Sarwan in tow this time around.

Actually more people will show up to watch Gayle bat in this outdated format of the game. So instead of a dozen you may have 200.

I fear that because attendance of Tests is only huge when a Big 3 team is playing (specifically India or England, Oz seems to have lagged a bit of late), they're not seen as profitable as T20s for example. Series of 5 Tests are rare; we're seeing more one-off Tests instead.

I understand your perspective , however , I look at Test Matches as being akin to the Marathon in the Olympics . ODI Matches are akin to the
400 meters & 20/20 matches are akin
to the 100 meters .

I have not heard or read that the Races I have cited above are going to be banned from the Olympics .

THE CRUX OF OUR PROBLEMS IN CRICKET

IS THE FACT THAT OUR PLAYERS IN ALL

FORMATS OF THE GAME ARE PLAYING LESS

CRICKET THAN THEIR OPPONENTS IN THE

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET ARENA .

Anytme Our Players are engaged with
Players from Other Countries , I always look at how many matches the
Players on the opposing Teams have
played ; and then make a comparison
to the number of Matches Our Players
have played .

THE DIFFERENCE IS EXCEEDINGLY STARK

AND INDICATES TO ME THAT THE OUTCOME

OF THOSE MATCHES ARE NEVER IN DOUBT.

I do not have a problem with the WICBC getting Money from the various
Governments . However there must be
Completely New Structures in the
WICBC ; and the Regional Cricket Boards .

IT IS LUDICROUS TO GIVE THE WICBC &

THE REGIONAL CRICKET BOARDS MONEY

WHEN THEY PERSIST IN THEIR BUSINESS

AS USUAL MENTALITY .

But is it fair to you POINT that your tax money pays for the Police and immigration service of a private island?

Your buddies are not too happy with that arrangement.

FYI , Mustique is under the Jurisdiction of the Government ofSVG .
Obviously this infers that there are
Police Officers living in the island
and ALL those living in Mustique also have to pay Taxes .

Your fascination with Mustique is
overwhelming . I have absolutely no doubt that there are Public Beaches
there. Perhaps if You bought a House
there You would have the luxury of
bathing at any Beach on the Island .
