Hi guys, I moved to Ontario a few days ago and I'm still in the process of getting settled. I know quite a few members on here live there so any job referrals would be appreciated. I'm in IT.

Thanks, will check it out.

Otherwise known as Scarberia.
Everybody lived in Scarborough was nice in the early 70s

Bud get yourself signed up on LinkedIn then reach out and connect with all fellow IT ppl you know here in TO or Merica. Build your credibility. Hardest phase is now. Don't get distracted and end up in factory if you can afford it. Eat some milk and rice if you need to - worth it in long run. Took me 9 months when I got here too.
Lots of Ontario residents on this message board. Would be nice to have a get together of some sort.
That would mean a few persons losing their anonymity. So then again, that would be a bad idea.?????

Wackie is in IT. Not sure if he lives in Scarborough but Im fairly confident he lives somewhere in the GTA
Drive east to Pickering and check out Island Mix. Good vibe there
As youre in Scarborough, you can also check out Rolands if it still around

Unless he moved, he is way way way out west. Like past Guelph west.
In reply to Roots
Pity you are not in Ottawa. Amazon just started building a huge centre here...

Moved to Ajax, I think.
Windies at Bellamy and Lawrence or Tropical Nights at Morningside and Sheppard are good places to hang out and nyam some West Indian food.
In reply to imusic
Rolands move star, think they open up in Pickering or something so
In reply to Roots
Scarborough not too bad depending on the area, mi been up here going 15 years now.
Regarding IT positions: I hear Indeed is the best site to find IT jobs in the GTA.
In reply to Roots
+1 for indeed
What sort of IT are you in?
Dev, ops or network?
In reply to eXodus
Most of my experience is in Networking but I do web development on the side.

In reply to eXodus
man i tart all ayuh leff scarb long now
In reply to doosra
You're probably thinking Asian immigrants.
Those sikhs built one of the most beautiful gurdwaras in Bramptonistan.
Brampton rocks man. Good and cheap Indian food. Sweet Larkees but downside is dem arrogant Larkas.
there's a place accross from brampon...milton? dont remember the name seems to be ready for housing too
brampton done tek ova
In reply to Runs
I thought it was called Bramladesh. Certainly not The Bramptobbean.
In reply to doosra
I'm in Milton.
In reply to JahJah
I quite like there. seems less rushy rushy unless it;s somewhere else i mistake
i do not like Brampton tho most o my peeps settle dung deh
In reply to doosra
Yes, Milton is easy. I've never lived in Brampton. Just worked there nearly 2 decades ago...and well I still get mi trim up deh. Before Milton it was Mississauga for me.
I've got family who've been in Scarb since the 70s but it has never appealed to me.
When I first came here I stayed with a cousin in Jamdown and Finch. That week was all I needed to know that I'd rather eat water crackers and sardine for breakfast, lunch and dinner that spend another second there
In reply to JahJah
my first family went to scarb back in the 80s...in fact all a dem went to scarb...it is only in the last decade that they move out...most to brampton, a few to mississauga and thereabouts
but they seem to like the brampton area alot tho they dont really mix up with their motherland peeps
i got a few oldsters in york but york is a little dramatic for me
In reply to doosra
Don't know bout y'all but motherland peeps aren't receptive at all of the castaways.
Well, I only base this on experiences in the UK way back when. Times are changing.
Mississauga wants to escape Brampton and the others in Peel. Seh dem tired of carrying dead weight. They're thinking of seceding.
I don't know what it is about Brampton that makes people frown that much though.
In reply to JahJah
seriously, ive spent a few weeks over the years there and i cant ever tell of a conversation between my peeps and motherland peeps...they just happen to live in the same place...strange nuh
Brampton people dem feel seh dem rich...i always get that impression
is there any truth to that...is there even a class thing?
In reply to doosra
You too conscious of your pooracity . Sorry if we made you feel so.
In reply to tigga
is nah true man?
i don't see yall mingling up wid dem motherland ppl
and yeh,,,yall down deh in the town juss feel yall too rich
is nah true man/.?
In reply to Roots
Make sure to contact the Jamaica Canadian Association, a good place for networking.
And do register with the Consulate-General in downtown Toronto. They can likely provide useful suggestions.

Why would anyone want to live in Toronto and its environs?
Oh, I forgot. Jobs maybe? Certainly, not for housing and traffic.
In reply to JahJah
u know it is punj overload
In reply to Roots
may I ask where you moved from?
