Most boundaries in an innings..what a contrived way to resolve a double tie

what would be the next tie breaker?

positiveg 2019-07-14 22:17:21

Before going into the tourney everyone knew what would happen at the end of a zsuoer Over tie.
That said Congrats England

The thing is we ignore some of these arbitrary rules because super overs are rare. This one is arbitrary on steroids. A run is a freaking run.

They should have gone to a third super over, play until there is an outright winner. What was the rush to end it?

BTW, the umpire teif out Taylor's hand. The DRS has shown the ball was way over the stumps.

camos 2019-07-15 00:46:55

in a tied game the team batting first should be the winner, just like how Duckworth Lewis gives the second team a higher target.

WIForever 2019-07-15 01:06:29

However, according to Law 19.8, pertaining to "Overthrow or wilful act of fielder", it would appear that England's second on-field run should not have counted, making it a total of five runs for the incident, not six.

The law states: "If the boundary results from an overthrow or from the wilful act of a fielder, the runs scored shall be any runs for penalties awarded to either side, and the allowance for the boundary, and the runs completed by the batsmen, together with the run in progress if they had already crossed at the instant of the throw.

The crucial clause is the last part. A review of the footage of the incident shows clearly that, at the moment the ball was released by the New Zealand fielder, Martin Guptill, Stokes and his partner, Adil Rashid, had not yet crossed for their second run.

In soccer you keep kicking penalties because goals decde football games. I would be happy with super ove after super over, maybe with different bowlers each time around

I saw a cool suggestion, the second Super Over is played, but with the opposing captain choosing the players to bat.

Can you imagine, Ferguson, Boult and Henry vs Archer, then Rashid, Wood and Archer vs Boult? (for the record: advantage England)
