So it was 5 and not 6

The Kiwis won
In reply to doosra
Maybe but it was a clear cut error. It is the World Cup final not a bilateral.
Title should be shared at least.
In reply to WIForever
Fitting end to disgraceful umpiring throughout the world Cup. The Cup should have been shared.
In reply to Chrissy
How the hell more boundaries being a rule to decide a winner in ODI cricket is beyond me. T10 or T20 maybe.
In reply to WIForever
maybe they will review this rule
In reply to WIForever
It's a stupid arbitrary rule.
When there is still a tie after the super over, wickets must decide the winner.
A run is a run so most fours can't decide a World Cup. Who the hell cares how you reached 241? I can't believe Cricket officials bought into this crap.
In reply to Chrissy
Nonsense indeed

"It's a stupid arbitrary rule."
I think stupid indeed... Neither Eng nor NZ would be thinking of that while batting. If the cup was shared I don't think anyone with sense would disagree or feel agrieved.

Well said.
The rules were known to everyone right?
While it's a dumb way to end a final, I was hoping for another Super Over.
England won per the rules. How many crybabies on here would be screaming faked outrage if NZ won this way.
In reply to doosra
NZ is the rightful winner here.

Now we know,Umpires needs to go back and learn every rule so a team does not suffer such losses ever again. What a shame, there were doubts in the fielders mind when it happened, and questions were being asked ,why there and then it wasn't checked.Lucky England!

With all the technology available the tv umpire shud be used to judge overthrows in de same way dey check to see if a fielder has touched the boundary while in contact with the ball.
It is hard to expect the umpires to be watching to see if the batsmen are running short runs and at the same time watching the fielder to determine whether the batsmen had crossed when the throw was taken.
Even doh some a dem make some howlers, allyu give umpires a break. You have slow motion, snicko and pitch maps to help you. After all even Hot Spot used to get it wrong and from time to time ball tracking does also

Seriously............
Somethings are hard to take, and I feel the pain of the NZ camp, but one way to stop something like this from happening is to make sure that all an sundry are aware of the rules and agrees to abide by them before a ball is bowled in a global tournament.........not many believe that the final would have taken this route and organizers try wherever possible down to the last digit to make sure there is one winner.....in the post-mortem a review of some of these rules should be placed on the table, this along with the mankad......just sain.

We all learn from childhood how to signal a FOUR and a SIX. Nowhere were we taught how to signal FIVE.
The same for the actual humpires.
In reply to Drapsey
De umpire never signaled six. He cudn cause de ball wasn hit for six. He indicated using his fingers and its just as easy showing five as it is six
In reply to Maispwi
Ok then, I'll think of something else.
