He made a reasonable analysis, even accurate analysis, nothing hateful.

Yours analysis is never reasonable but more on the border of hate.

Thanks. Pretty sure my analysis was quite sound laced with relevant statistics.

interpretations and uses are subjective and not always valid . . . numbers can be used to tell lies and support racism . . . I realize that you never did measurement and did not go to college . . .

Benjamin Disraeli or Arthur James Balfour said "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

By their very nature, statistics can only be misused when the audience doesn't bother checking them. Statistics are just a numerical summary of evidence that has been collected. They give people the starting point to delve directly into that evidence and see if the arguments hold together.

When misused, statistics are less Disraeli's "damned lies" and more another leader's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". It is by not presenting all of the information and selectively choosing definitions that statistics can appear to lie. But such claims will not stand up under cross-examination

The book highlighted the fact that statistics can be manipulated in various ways to serve the purposes of the purveyor. As Huff put it, "Averages and relationships and trends and graphs are not always what they seem. There may be more in them than meets the eye, and there may be a good deal less." In other words, statistics can be used either to inform or to mislead.

As any magician can tell you, the real trick often takes place offstage. The deck has already been stacked; the card placed into the shoe. No matter how closely you look, you’ll never spot the sleight of hand.

So it is with statistics. We often pay attention to the wrong thing, scrutinising the numbers with a forensic eye without asking about what those numbers really describe. Sometimes there is no intent to deceive; there doesn’t need to be. We deceive ourselves.
