485 murders recorded under Garys watch
In this countrys history, the murder toll in a calendar year has only ever crossed the 475 mark on four occasions.
And there are still more than two weeks left until Griffith celebrates his first anniversary as Police Commissioner.
With the current rate of bloodletting taking place in the country, it is not improbable that 500 murders can be recorded under Griffiths first year in office.
Griffith took the oath of office as this countrys substantive Police Commissioner on August 17 last year when the murder toll was around 345.
Last year, eventually ended with 517 murders, according to statistics from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Services Crime and Problem Analysis (CAPA) branch.
It is this countrys second-highest murder toll ever.

T&T Prisons preparing for impact
The House of Representative is set to debate the Bail (Amendment) Bill today.
Once the persons are not outside on bail it adds to the population and once you have an increase in population...you know most of the facilities are already overcrowded...so we have to manage the population very carefully, Clarke said.
He recognised, though, that the law is a good move by the powers that be to address spiraling crime.
Clarke noted that most of the people likely to come into the prison system under the amended law, will be gang members, which, he said, will pose another problem.
It is always a challenge trying to allocate these people among the population because we have to be careful how we strengthen or weaken the gangs (within the prisons). What weve been trying to do with the police is to get the classification of those persons coming to us so we are aware of who they are, where they come from and so forth, he said.
He added: So we are working with the police on that so on entry we would know and be better able to assess the risk nature of the individual and therefore be in a better position to allocate them within the system.
He said the influx of prisoners will have to be met with a better functioning Judiciary.

Govt begs Opposition:
'Give citizens a fighting chance
The Police Service has argued that restricting the liberty of known offenders can immediately impact on the out-of-control gang violence which has sparked panic among the population.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley went further to criticise the Judiciary on Sunday for being sympathetic to criminals by granting them bail.
In piloting the Bail (Amendment) Bill, Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi warned 200-plus known gang members who were out on bail that they better be afraid if they are caught with an illegal gun or another serious charge they would be locked up without bail for 120 days.
His colleague, National Security Minister Stuart Young, said about a third of the 300-plus murders committed in the first seven months were gang-related and the legislation would give the police and law-abiding citizens a fighting chance.
