Concussion Substitutes
In reply to culpepperboy
Was thinking the same. Curious about the timing of the implementation.
Anyways, could have been anyone injured.
Lets hope that this is fairly administered.

What if the substitute gets a concussion? Does he get a substitute?
What about other injuries? Should substitutes not be used in those cases?
In reply to culpepperboy
I would think that the whole concept of concussion substitution will mandate that if the substitute is injured, then there will be a substitute for that substitute...otherwise that is a broken process.
The substitution is concussion specific....so there cannot be full substitution for physical injuries. That will open a can of worms.
In reply to runout
Maybe the can needs to be opened.
Are there any other team sports that don't allow subs for injured players?
So, would a self-inflicted concussion procure the same benefits? And does the team suffering the concussion get to choose a replacement?
This could open up all kinds of possibilities ... "Tell Paint to knock 'eself out with 'e bat. He battin' too f*cking slow."

What about other serious injuries? Should subs be allowed for those?
In reply to culpepperboy
Yes, subs should be allowed for serious injuries, but an on-field determination of "serious" could be subjective.

Its opening a can of worms. Problems ahead.
The last innings of a test, my batman who is out of form
has a concussion????....tripped over the rope when Umps wasn't looking.
I can now bring in Lara jr to win the game

Or he deliberately takes a blow on the helmet from a "fast" bowler like JHo, falls over and starts fluttering like Frankenstein with a bad oil pump. Will become a comedy like footballers trying to get a penalty in the box.

The horse already bolted, Sarge.
For some unexplained reason we're in a hurry to baseball-ize cricket.
I could see it coming from the time we started using terms like Batters, and Doug-outs.
They might just make what you described above official with the introduction of the AL's Designated Hitter.

Thanks, you made me spill my Orange juice

I'm confused:
Yet...
"Whether the player takes no further part in the game is down to the medical staff. Whether there's a replacement available is the secondary consideration.
So why a substitute?
It should either be subs for ALL serious injuries, or none at all!!
In reply to sgtdjones
If you expect Lil B to save that match then you in the bar early o clock
One thing I don't believe was discussed above is that the substitute must be a "like for like" replacement. How is that defined?
I disagree with it. Smith played the bouncer poorly, Australia should not be warranted a sub for a lack of competence from the best test batsman in the world (albeit a brief moment). Yes I know it is a head injury so that's more serious especially post Phillip Hughes' death, but still.
If they ever introduced a sub, I'd personally only care for it with "freak" injuries, like being hit at short leg and having your arm broken, or Boucher's eye injury (though he didnt have a helmet).
