Captain Morgan, asked if his team had needed the luck of the Irish, joked that, while he had the rub of the green, Adil Rashid had told him “we had Allah on our side as well”. Morgan felt “this epitomises our team, from quite diverse backgrounds and cultures”. Only the grisliest of internet trolls could take offence at this, which echoed how England football manager Gareth Southgate had talked about his young England football team last summer.

Just over the past weekend I was speaking to a teenager who currently lives in the UK and he told me that cricket is a white sport, I was really taken aback by his comments.

I am from Ireland but I was in London for the world cup final. Was keeping up to date on my phone but when it got exciting thought I would run to a Bar and see the last few overs.
Unfortunately every single one of them were showing the tennis. Got on a tube frustrated only for a man from Karachi sat next to me and he was watching on a tablet.we were whooping and cheering every ball, he for England, I was for the Kiwis.
Lots of Brits on the tube but they had no interest.
