T&T's Kieron Pol­lard has been named West In­dies 'white ball' cap­tain and will re­place Ja­son Hold­er and Car­los Brath­waite re­spec­tive­ly.

A source close to the sit­u­a­tion who spoke to Guardian Me­dia Sports on the con­di­tion anonymi­ty ex­plained that the de­ci­sion was tak­en by Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) Board of Di­rec­tors. Guardian Sports un­der­stands that the CWI di­rec­tors made the de­ci­sion on Sat­ur­day, the first day of their two-day reg­u­lar quar­ter­ly meet­ing at the Hilton Trinidad Ho­tel in Port-of-Spain.

Pol­lard, 32, who is cap­tain­ing the Trin­ba­go Knight Rid­ers (TKR) in the ab­sence of reg­u­lar cap­tain Dar­ren Bra­vo, who is in­jured and will be out of ac­tion for two months, was the play­er pro­posed by the se­lec­tion com­mit­tee and when the vote was tak­en, he got the sup­port from six di­rec­tors while the oth­er six ab­stained.

Well, that doesn't quite answer my question. I , actually, was advocating for his ODI inclusion in spite of his sketchy one day record, and I feel he will be a better captain than Jason and Carlos but of course time will tell.

I just don't understand how people don't play the format and then suddenly become captain. But is West Indies. It's traditional.

Do we leave Carlos there and let things go worse?

Give him a chance we already at rock bottom

Was carlos a fixture on the team when chosen as T20?

Was Jason an experienced Captain when chosen?

A drastic change is needed to see if we can change the fortunes of Windies team; neither men nor women can win ah lick.

I can't recall a more barren period for Windies cricket. At least when we started our decline, after '95, every once in a while we would win a match to show we were still keen competitors. Now, we can't win anything. Rather than turning the corner, these teams are "back backing" and unable to get out of the curve. In fact, even the once minions are throwing curveballs at the once-mighty Windies.

Serious question. How does Cricket West Indies voting work? If there are 12 total votes and six directors vote in favor of a motion while the other six abstain, does the motion at issue carry or would a majority of the 12 eligible votes be necessary for a motion to carry? In other words, can a captaincy recommendation by the selectors be approved by a 6-0 vote or would at least 7 votes be necessary for the motion to carry?

When CWI announces, why not give the player a chance to see if he has such leadership capabilities.

I don't know whether Pollard has been named white ball captain or not....I'm only saying that if the reporter got the meeting location wrong I am not sure we can trust the main thrust of the article....

I will think that will be pretty embarrassing for a reputable paper to print misleading info on the same player twice. However, it wouldn't surprise me because standards seems to be pretty low right now

He did not play because they did not pick him to play.

It is not his fault that the CWI is shortsighted. That they cannot see other islands except Barbados abd Jamaica when picking a team.
Polly will make a great captain in maroon colors.
He makes people play above their pay grade. Ask Krunal and Hardik. Hardik attributed as much in an interview awhile back that Pollard helped him immensely when they batted together.
Would love to see they also name Shimron as his sidekick.

Yes he can. Give him the right combination of players who want to "win" and he will.
Cannot see Jason neither Carlos on the team.
So many other players look hungrier than these two.

i don't agree with it either but these are not normal circumstances the west indies can't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results ,the results under holder is not good so if this news is true good luck to pollard and hope his btting has improved

I am surprised that some who called for sacking of senior players with the theme "Anyway we not winning" suddenly want to know Pollards credentials as a captain.

Afterall we are losing and what is the big deal. Anyone who has seen our White ball cricket record under the current captains will know that "We cannot do any worse"

It doesn't matter whether it's Pollard, Holder, Brathwaite, Bravo or whoever, it won't make a difference. Did you hear? Another team is now on the scene to beat up on the West Indies - Afghanistan. Yes they have just beaten Bangladesh - a team we can't beat. Yes, our woes are multiplying. Maybe we should just give it up. Our boys just don't have what it takes - skill/talent, brains, pride and patriotism. Without these we will never be able to compete internationally against teams who are overflowing with these qualities. Yes, it's over for us!

Another good reason for me to abandon WI lickit cricket ....

His stats as captain is by a factor more than 2 worse than any other captain

Its amazing how when players start losing dere overseas appeal dey suddenly can find all de time in de world to commit to WI cricket.

Nothing like losing a Big Bash contract, getting dropped from an IPL team, or almost going unsold in an IPL draft to mek men reassess de way forward.
