Designer jeans of the 80s

black 2019-10-07 00:53:13

People used to pay big buck for them (myself included) but now they are gone.

It's interesting, only brands like Levi Strauss, Lee jeans and Wrangler that have been around long before the brand name craze are still doing well today.

If you've been in the U.S. since the 80s, what was your favorite brand?

Remember the jingle "Ahh, lalloo, Sassoon", as featured in the Sassoon Jeans commercials?

My former co-worker, Manuel Ytuarte (and still my brethren), got credit for "writing" it.

I still wear Wrangler today. Just bought two new pairs (carpenter style) last Friday.

They are too plain to be paying that much money for.

By the way, this is the first time I've heard of them.

black 2019-10-07 10:39:13

I don't think Sassoon was a women's only brand, now you got me thinking... lol

I do remember there was some sort of controversy with the rights to the name.

I think Gloria Vanderbilt was women only but I could be wrong.

I have a pair of Lee jeans, don't know the brand names of my others.

What brand was Marla Maples a model for? Jordache?

I'm a bit old-school, I like my jeans simple, all these fancy styles of jeans are too perplexing.

With his girth, it's the only manufacturer that make such XXXXL sizes. No one buys them so he gets them at half price.

Drapsey 2019-10-08 10:16:55

In reply to RedDuppy

My allegiance to Wrangler is well rooted.

Back in the day growing up in the hills of Eastern Hanover, Jamaica, we couldn't wait for the Farm Workers to return from 'merica clad in dem Wrangler dungarees, oversized buckle belts, and cowboy hats.

Oh, how we wanted to grow up fast so that we could emulate.

Great back then.

They would go away for about 6 months. On their return they were the proverbial Kings.

We would just gather around them and intently listen to their stories (yarns). Some day!

Ok, some of them didn't bother to return. wink

Drapsey 2019-10-08 19:16:31

In reply to black

No, not me.

I usually don't wear anything that has someone's name on it. After all, I'm the one who paid for it. The wrangler jeans are worn for sentimental reasons.

I have a story here...

Back in the 80s I treated myself to a pair of Pierre Cardin socks.

As if it weren't bad enough when one co-worker asked why I was wearing Pierre's socks and not my own, another one asked why I had graffiti on my socks. That did it.

In reply to doosra

That's more like my grand daughters' style. Colorful.

Mine are hiking-boots. The kind you buy on sale at BJs or Sam's Club.

Another story...

The other day on the street someone asked me for 'some change'. At first look he appeared to be in need, so I was tempted to give him my last $5.00 bill.

But then I took a look at his footwear which appeared to be a $150.00 pair of Nike's. I kept my 5 dollars.
