Salt was coming of a very impressive T20 Blast campaign with Sussex Sharks.
Not sure if Tridents had him on their radar during the CPL but I imagine after Duminy's injury they wanted to recruit someone with big game experience and Salt happened to be in the neighborhood.
He'll be playing Big Bash later this year too and he's someone to look for in the England setup soon enough.

Played youth cricket for Wanderers and a year for Harrison College before he returned to the UK with his parents. Was a greatly improved player after he spent a year at Sussex as a teenager. Now he is a step away from playing for the Lions.

Since this is franchise cricket, what are the rules re: replacement players? You can just haul in some one just because they are in the neighbourhood? What if ABD was around could he get a shot?

Someone brought that up during the game or just afterwards - it seems that there isn't any rule prohibiting such. It may behoove the CPL to address how such 'free agent' signings work, going forward. At least something like the NBA where a playoff roster must be declared before the matches start.

I think they were looking for big match experience since it was a final. Unfortunately due to poor umpiring we did not get a chance to see what he could do.
