Did he prefix the statement with: Many people did not know this?
what's worse he was reading from a script.
Of course, when Mr Gaffe sleepy Joe Biden bombards us with countless gaffes - SILENCE! Dwl.
Did not really hear Trump's statement. Don't really know how he used the word relationship. Anyway, even the dotard genius must know that the USA is only a couple hundred years old and European settlement in what is now the USA began in the early 1600. If Trump is referring to the influence of ancient Rome and Italy on the USA, then he has a point. Language, architecture, law, religion, art, infrastructure, SLAVERY even the fundamentals of separation of powers eg role of the senate and emperor , empire building and militarism and many many more.

as far as i remember no place called Italy existed a thousand years ago.
Sicily, Milan , naples etc were city states with separate laws and rulers and only became unified around 1870
Romans he meant

Sudden it would be pointless getting into a debate with you re. Roman / Italian history. After 57 years I still remember much of my A level European History. Suffice to say that prior to 1870 Italy was really a geographical expression. Over 2000 years ago Rome dominated the Italian peninsula and a vast overseas empire . If someone say that ancient Italy influenced their history, I know that the person is referring to Rome. If you want to fine tune it then by all means go ahead , write a detailed treatise rivalling Gibbons rise and fall of the roman empire and the coming of the Italian city states.

indeed it would be pointless. i was not trying to debate or argue with you nonetheless. i was merely trying to point out that even if that was what Trump was basing his statement on he may not have been entirely accurate
US President Donald Trump, Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his blunder at the White House press conference was the agenda of social media.
Mattarella 'mozzarella' Trump also said, the partnership between the two countries 'ancient Rome is based on' he said.
Trump, "the United States and Italy, thousands of years ago, based on the ancient Roman Empire connected with a common cultural and political heritage," he said.
Trump's words, on the other hand, received many shares on social media and became a mockery.
