HEADLINE: Roger Harper eager to lead new era of West Indies team selections

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Brandon King, Hayden Walsh Jr and Romario Shepherd get their debut West Indies call-ups in the first squads selected by the new senior selection panel of Roger Harper, Miles Bascombe and coach Phil Simmons for the upcoming series versus Afghanistan in India from November 4 - December 1.

There were also recalls for talented young fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, alongside veterans Denesh Ramdin and Lendl Simmons.

Joseph missed the recent India home series and World Cup due to the injury he suffered on IPL duty with the Mumbai Indians.

Ramdin last represented the West Indies in T20 Internationals on last November’s tour to India, while for Simmons it was the 2017 home rubber against Afghanistan.

In a lively and transparent press conference yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval, the new selectors answered many questions regarding the players they had chosen.

Here are some of the highlights:

New era, new day in WI selection

So I give some credit for the press conference, but I am afraid he still fell short. He need to answer for the mistreatment of Hety. By selecting him for all 3 formats, it is not only an injustice to WI cricket, but also the player because you are sending him a message that despite his woeful form and unacceptable attitude, he will get selected.

Going forward, we don't need selectors, we need the captain and coach to pick the team and we hold them accountable for results.

In addition, a good journalist would have asked proper questions, for example the reason cited for Ramdin make no sense- we have 2 keepers in the squad why would you need a third back-up for such as short tour.?

A good journalist would have also asked about Carter non selection.

Unfortunately, yuh can't have 11 Trinis on the team

We recognized Darren has not been at his best as we have seen over the years. Therefore we wanted to give him the opportunity to go away, maybe play club cricket, but definitely our regional cricket, get his game right and come back to being the best he can be, so that he can make a real positive impact for our West Indies team and be the force we know he can be in world cricket.”

Unfortunately, Darren Bravo has been away from Windies cricket for some years and seemed to have done nothing to improve his game after he was brought back into the game. I doubt being away again for any additional length of time is going to improve much. To me, he seems to lost the mental affinity for the game.

Harper like all selectors before him will be glad for the chance to eat a food, and won't let good judgement get in the way!

Big joke, he must believe the fans are asses and he obviously has no qualms about disrespecting us.

The biggest selection interest was about Hety, yet he has remained quiet and not word about him.

Well you don't hear a peep from them regarding Darren Bravo sitting on an all format retainer and not getting selected.

Shouldn't he return the change or does he continue to collect money under false pretense? smile smile

A journalist wanting to make Harper et al look clever would have asked such a question!!!

Jonathan Carter averages 23 in ODI cricket with 3 half centuries and a highest score of 54 and a scoring rate of 70.This after 33 ODI matches!!!!!
He is 31 years old and after 4 years of failure you want to recycle him into the team and you call people idiotic???

LOGIC IS NOT YOUR FRIEND
