Afghanistan vs West Indies, 2nd ODI
Their four wins this year came before the World Cup and they've now lost ten consecutive matches with the latest against West Indies in the first ODI.
They now find themselves desperate to turn things around - not only to keep the series alive but also find a way out of the rut.
Afghanistan wins the toss and will field.
WI to play the same team. Afghanistan makes a single change.
We will bowl first. It looks to be a fresh wicket. It was tough in the last games because of dew. It is better for us to bowl first because of the number of spinners we have. We will try to restrict them below and chase it down
Pitch looks a bit dry. It is a good toss to win for them. We ticked most of the boxes in the first game. We have identified few things which we can do better. We can't control what has gone but we can control what is in front of us. We have the same team today
Shai Hope is on strike.
Mujeeb will open the attack

It's time for drinks. Solid, if not a sensational, start from West Indies. Afghanistan wouldn't be too disappointed either. A couple of quick wickets will put the pressure back on the visitors. Varun steps in to take you through for the next hour and a bit.

In reply to Norm
Yes, I understand he had to go after the bowling, but trying to clear the ropes over LongOn off the backfoot is physically impossible for someone of his stature! Apart from being a bad shot selection, its also a technical flaw.
Hope the coaches recognize that!

That kind of shot could also lead to injury. Pooran's approach to the same problem seems much better.

Walsh has batting ability. Grew up as a batting allrounder. Definitely shouldn't be batting behind Joseph.
The risk with that strategy is, of course, the possibility of spinners coming into their own especially on surfaces like these that wear as the game progresses. This put the middle order under pressure, and the lookout for release shots left them in some strife.
Thankfully for them, Pooran found his way out of the mess with a sensible approach, before he opened up with some big hits to drive the total forward. Make no mistake, Afghanistan will have to bat very well to level the series

Hayden Walsh to Nabi, FOUR, boundaries are flowing here! Shortish delivery by Hayden Walsh, a loosener to start the innings, Nabi rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket for four runs to open his account

Hayden Walsh to Nabi, FOUR, another gift by Hayden Walsh, this one is a full toss outside off, Nabi comes on his front foot and creams it through the gap at covers for the second boundary of the over, he's now scored 8 runs off 2 balls
What does Larr call those sort of bowlers? Shavistra? Well, honey comes into the attack.

i ain't sold on walsh jr yet he took wickets inthe cpl but he also bowled a lot of over pitched deliveries and long hops and that was a 20 overs cricket this is 50 overs cricket a different format batters don't have to go after you from the start and his first two matches i have not seen a lot of control

Hayden Walsh to Nabi, FOUR, had there been a fielder in slip, this could have been a straight forward catch. A legbreak outside off, Nabi goes for a punch off his back foot and gets an outside edge that flies through the cordon, beats the man at short third man and finds the fence

Cottrell to Najibullah, out Caught by Pooran!! Edged and grabbed. Zadran bends his head down in disappointment. While, Cottrell gets into his customary celebration. Lapse in concentration you'd say. Just a couple of balls back, the insect seems to have caused an hindrance to his eye. This was short and wide of off, Zadran throws his bat at that and feeds a thick edge to the keeper. Big wicket for West Indies as they are right back in this contest.

Hayden Walsh to Nabi, out Lbw!! Woah. Two in two for the visitors and it's West Indies' game to lose from now. What a moment. First Zadran and now Nabi - both setbatsmen dismissed in two balls. Turning point of this game for sure and Afghanistan are slipping away. Excellent move from Pollard to bring Walsh back into the attack. Tosses the leg-break on middle, Nabi went low to sweep but gets struck on the pads. Only question was whether was the impact in-line or not. Nabi looks flabbergasted as he walks off.

Hayden Walsh to Rashid Khan, out Stumped!! Gone. The end is near for Afghanistan. Skipper Rashid is back to the hut. Runs down the track and makes room to launch it over extra cover. Was defeated by the flight and got completely deceived there. Straightforward stumping chance for Hope and he makes no mistake. Second wicket for Hayden.

wow, we win a series!! me can't believe it! Bring out some champagne. Not too much because of the stature of the opposition, but some champagne is in order.

A win is a win. Be thankful for small mercies. lol
I think we started off really well, we bowled well in the first few overs. Credit goes to Pooran for the way he played. 247 was still chaseable with such a deep batting line up. We recovered well, but couldn't finish off. The only plan was to bowl dot balls and they'll make mistakes. We knew we could get few opportunities. The senior players did well, but we lost wickets in clusters. In the next match we'll try to play much better than this and be positive. I think we need to focus on that. We need to believe in ourselves, that's where we're lacking a touch.
It feels good, been a long since we have won a series. It was a good wicket, it was a bit drier. It was just a matter of giving that opprtunity to go hard in the end. Pooran batted well and showed his consistency. The openers laid the foundation for us and Hetmyer played according to the situation as well. I want to go back inside and celebrate with the guys. Winning is a habit and we need to enjoy ourselves similarly day after..
