Kohli wins toss and will bowl first
Virat Kohli | India captain:
We're going to bowl first. There will be dew in 45 mins to one hour. It's a good wicket to bat on, and it's going to get better to bat with the ball coming on nicely. Chasing has been better for us to be honest. The data has to be taken into account, particularly when you win the toss, which is an uncontrollable. Shami and Bhuvi come back into the squad. Bhuvi has done well in this ground to be honest. At the international level we tend to overcomplicacte, and it's important to maintain the IPL mindset (on Pant). Samson, Pandey, Yadav miss out.

2019-12-06 13:06:10
Keiron Pollard | West Indies captain:
The toss is 50-50, so we can't really control it. We just need to bat really well. It's important to ignore the outside noise, try to do the right things on the field and come out on top. We have a few young guys who have done well in the CPL. You don't want to put extra pressure on them, just do really well and express themselves in terms of their skills and fielding. Rutherford, Allen, Pooran, missing out.

Pitch Report | SunnyG and Murali Kartik:
A wonderful looking pitch, very placid. The pitch is so good, it's no wonder that this city has produced such good batsmen. A few cracks, but they won't open up much in 40 overs. A bit of turn and the ball will come on nicely so batting will be a real pleasure. India want to test themselves, to begin on a winning note - they definitely prefer chasing, bowling when the dew is as less as possible. This is a dress rehearsal for the 2020 World Cup

Much better ball to King. Swung away a little in the air but King was at the pitch of the ball and got a thick edge that flew safely to point. D Chahal getting a tiny bit of outswing, and moving it in off the seam.

Chahar to Brandon King, FOUR, he's a good batsman, is Brandon King.We all witnessed his heroics during the recently concluded CPL. Not that full a ball this one, Brandon King comes on his front foot and plays an uppish drive as he finds the gap at extra cover, once it's past the circle, there's no stopping that, such is the outfield!

Chahar to Brandon King, SIX, I'll have to take my words back, I suppose. Runs are coming from both the ends. Chahar drops this one short again, rising around the batsman's abdomen, Brandon King reads the length early, and although he takes his eyes off the ball for a moment, he manages to connect his pull. The timing and contact is just about fine as the ball flies over the man at deep square leg, six more!

Washington Sundar to Brandon King, FOUR, that was in the air for a while, but it has dropped just short of Rahul at long-on. Brandon King had pulled the short ball off his back foot, and for a moment he would have been anxious. 7.2
Washington Sundar to Brandon King, FOUR, this is what I was talking about. Although Lewis is back to the pavilion, King looks well set. He shimmies down the track and slaps the floated delivery over extra cover, there was a fielder sprinting across in the deep, but this was placed well past him

Misjudged catch....not taken
Comms think he lost the ball in the lights...fielder going in wrong direction...and slipped too
15.1
Chahal to Hetmyer, 1 run, oh Sundar what have you done? He has misjudged a sitter. Leg-break turning down leg, Hetmyer was through his pull a bit early and the top-edge ballooned up near short fine leg, Sundar thought it was coming to him and stayed put, by the time he decided to come forward the ball had already landed in front of him. The on air comms suggest that "he might have lost it in the light"

WEE can win this....
8.32pm The crowd rises to applaud, in part due to West Indies' entertaining innings and in part that the onslaught finally comes to an end. The Hyderabad ground is big, but WI pumped 15 sixes nonetheless. Lewis and Hetmyer showed why they love playing against India so much, while Pollard and Holder showed that experience counts for something. Only once have WI hit more sixes than today, and that was against India too in the US. Chahal excellent as always. This has the potential to be a cracking second innings

K Pierre to Rahul, out Caught by Pollard!! He's mishit this and he knows immediately. Plugs the bat into the ground hoping for a dropped catch, but it's the bucket hands of Pollard at long-off. Rahul walks back gutted. Juicy full delivery, Rahul probably looked for a lofted drive over extra-cover, so didn't go really hard, hit that flat and straight to the fielder. Massive wicket for Windies

KL Rahul: "Everyone likes me when I score runs. In T20Is, I honestly don't plan my innings according to strike-rate, especially batting second. Depends more on the target. First few balls I'd still like to make use of the wicket. Important to lay a solid foundation as an opener, because there are power hitters in the back end. Want to do better in the next couple of games. Playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy helped a lot. Doesn't matter how many hours you spend in the nets. Winning games gives me the most confidence. Did that with Karnataka, happy to do it with India. Good that I can carry my confidence across tournaments. Tried to keep the game simple."

Kieron Pollard: "Batters did a good effort. You'd take 208 ten out of ten times. We lost due to the extras column. Nearly 2 and a half overs of extra deliveries. Yes, it was a batting wicket, but if we executed our plans better, it could've been a different story. There are only two areas where we lost the game in. Usually we tend to focus on negatives, but a lot of positives to takeaway today. King and Hetmyer showed great intent. Fielders did well. In the end, we need to improve, and we will win if we learn to tick more boxes."

Virat Kohli, the man of the match: "To young batsmen watching, don't follow the first half of my innings. I was batting poorly that time. I didn't want to put KL under pressure but I couldn't get going. Luckily got that one over from Holder, and then I began to analyse why I'm going wrong. Realised I'm not a slogger but a timer instead, and then changed my playing style."

Kieron Pollard |
West Indies captain: 208 to defend, on any day, you'd take that 10 out of 10 times. Where we lost the game was the extras and our bowling. Our execution was poor. If we had executed the plans we had spoke about, despite the good batting wicket, it would have been a different scenario. There are two areas in any game, and with the bat the guys were exceptional. There are a lot of positives to take from this game. Hetmyer and Lewis got back amongst the runs and that was quite satisfying, but we need to do the all-round basics right. Hopefully I have an idea of when to come up the order as a captain, and in a pressure situation, it's important to push yourself and it's a pleasure to perform for your team any day and get them across the line.

Virat Kohli | India captain
| Man of the Match: All the young batsmen watching don't follow the first half of my innings. That was too bad and I was trying to hit too hard (smiles). I started to get going after that over from Jason. I analysed what went wrong and played accordingly in the second half of my innings. Whenever I play T20 cricket I am not someone who comes to the ground to hit the ball in the air to entertain the crowd. I focus on doing the job. I don't have to change much for formats. I just want to contribute in all three formats, that's what I want to do. When you are chasing a big total, there are a lot of distractions with the scoreboard pressure. But after a few dots, the game puts you in a position where you just have to hold your shape and play the shots. It's not the CPL, it happened to me in Jamaica when he got me out. So I thought I'll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good. There were a few words, but smiles at the end. That's what you want to see. Good competitive cricket but in the end shake hands and give a hi-fi. That's what cricket is all about. Play it hard but have respect for opponents.
