Pollard : "Can't fault the effort of the guys."

LBW375 2019-12-06 17:29:37

Yes you can.

If you have 14 wides and 3 no balls, who you must blame ?

BeatDball 2019-12-06 17:31:10

In reply to LBW375 14 wides? Probably 'hiding' the facting ball.

Is Pollard playing as a batsman?
With all the licks, the captain ran to the hills.
I was hard on Sammy the par-timer, Pollard is doing the same.
I've removed All-rounder from his role and replace it with Powerhitter-part time bowler.

Any bowling is atrocious vs Virat and co.

Good match it was well contested, all the bowlers except Cotterell was expensive, a better plan next time.

You seriously use to consider polly as an all rounder? His bowling was always part timer stuff.

osrlive 2019-12-06 17:52:33

so nobody stating the Obvious????

A senior bowler looked very very very ordinary..........HOLDER!

was so against AFG too.....

osrlive 2019-12-06 17:53:20

I think Pollard is being polite.

dale_staple 2019-12-06 17:54:24

Go ahead and blame the Bajan, while the part-time bowler/captain, who is label an All-rounderran ran to the hills, when the Carnage was happening.
Can you imaging Pollard bowling 4 overs, Holder and Williams three each, and Walsh two.

Total team effort... If the bowlers had done better the Marooners would've bring it home.

You want him to publicly chew them out and insult them? Anybody who ever played cricket knows that the bowler shyte their pants in the 2nd half of that game under a bit of pressure. Wides, noballs, hit-me balls. The works.

I'm sure he'll chew them out in private for letting a game that was pretty much theirs to lose, slip away.

You can criticize Pollard for a bunch of things - leadership and this public statement aint one of them. Criticize him for not deploying his spinner properly, sure. Not for this.

cricketfreak 2019-12-06 18:30:04

Give him 300 runs and he still will not be able to defend it .

dale_staple 2019-12-06 18:52:30

WI Captaina oft get blamed for the poor performance of their players. But hia use of Kesrick and unwillingness to bowl himself when Kesrick and Holder were struggling were an error.

Narper 2019-12-06 21:47:29

Walsh has no place in a senior team

If he has to be protected by not bowling him why is he there

Fabian Allen should be a permanent fixture in the team....he could give you your 4 overs....and he can blast runs....and even tho Walsh is a very good fielder....Allen is a better fielder

Never heard Kohli with "Can't fault the effort of the guys"

the effort wasnt enough.

Ive lead successful teams. When we've fallen short we've always accepted responsibility, identify where we fell down and made meaningful change.

Its always "well we tried and it didnt comes off, hopefully we can learn from this". Wishy washy..............

From time to time, bowlers get a trashing in this format, Holder and Williams should not had bowled the maximum.
Not with Pollard in the squad.

Pollard would have bowled the last over....but they won after 18.4

Walsh was picked as a bowler...should have bowled his quota

Kieron Pollard | West Indies captain:
208 to defend, on any day, you'd take that 10 out of 10 times. Where we lost the game was the extras and our bowling. Our execution was poor. If we had executed the plans we had spoke about, despite the good batting wicket, it would have been a different scenario.

There are two areas in any game, and with the bat the guys were exceptional. There are a lot of positives to take from this game. Hetmyer and Lewis got back amongst the runs and that was quite satisfying, but we need to do the all-round basics right. Hopefully I have an idea of when to come up the order as a captain, and in a pressure situation, it's important to push yourself and it's a pleasure to perform for your team any day and get them across the line.

This was my issue with Pollard today. Obviously, you can't set field for bad bowling which is what the bowlers did but you have a leggie and the minute he bowls bad, you've lost confidence in him. Happened in one of the Afghan T20 game as well. Leg spinners are gold in this format, but they need love from the captain. West Indians are generally poor captains of spin bowlers. Bowl him his quota. That's the only way he will get better.

Kharry Pierre didn't bowl bad today (minus the couple leg side wides) but went for 45 runs and got 2 wickets. On Indian pitches, you don't have to bowl bad to go the distance especially when the likes of Rohit, Rahul & Kohli spends half the time in the crease. Let Walsh bowl his quota. India always give Chahal his quota even if he getting murdered. Leg spinners can only get better by bowling more and more. It's why Bishoo's biggest success came under Sammy as Sammy bowled him for long spells.

Narper 2019-12-07 02:50:33

In reply to jen

It's the same way Holder destroyed Bishoo....who lost all confidence...

Having said that....Walsh should have been given time to build on his CPL success....before being rushed into international cricket

Holder's first, third and fourth overs, he went for over 10 runs each, William and Walsh was just as bad, he did took Walsh out of the attack, but continue with Williams and Holder, only bringing himself on, after the 17th or so over.
The Allrounder slot is to assist the bowlers, especially in this short format.
Why is he in any 50 overs squad, if he at times, not going to bowl ten overs?
Pollard belong in a team, that have 4 bowlers, 2 allrounders, so when the going get rough the captain can hand him the ball, for a couple of overs.
