Pitch report:
"This is a pitch where the ball comes on to the bat nicely. There is a bit of movement initially due to the sprinkling of grass. It's a bit damp and new ball might move a bit but it's a white ball, so there won't be too much movement. There will be plenty of runs on offer and it should be a high scoring game. Captains have opted to chase because it gives them an idea of the run rate that they need to maintain. The other factor is clearly the dew which aids the team batting second." - Sunil Gavaskar assesses the 22 yards.

Narper 2019-12-11 13:04:20

Kohli:
I think it's a great wicket to score runs. We have been tentative while batting first. T20 cricket goes that way. We were about 15 runs short (in the last game). Fielding is an important part in this format. If we had taken our chances, things could have been different. As a batsman, you try to get into your zone first. This is a ground where you can always catch up. Those who get a fifty, need to ensure that they carry on and score those extra 25 runs for the side. We've got two changes - Shami comes in for Jadeja, Kuldeep comes in for Chahal

In reply to Narper

this is VERY significant unfortunately ,, I am glad we won , but the advantage given at the toss is too great in day/night winter cricket.

Narper 2019-12-11 13:05:01

Pollard:
We're gonna field first. Obviously here, dew plays a factor when you bat second. It's a new wicket, hopefully we can restrict them to a chaseable total. I think it was a good performance (in the last game). We're always looking to improve and there are a couple of areas to improve on. It's a fresh wicket and hopefully, our guys can make use of it with the new ball. We're unchanged!

Chris Gayle had once called Nicholas Pooran the mini-universe boss. For me, he bats a bit more like a young Yuvraj Singh, who'd set the 2000 ICC Knockout on fire with the bat and in the field. Who are the players you think bat in much the same manner?

Rahul Sargam: "In the last 2 matches I observed that, Lewis, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer these players are left handed and were hitting sixes over cow corner, deep log on and deep square leg. 70% sixes were these areas, why would you still play Chahal or Jaddu? why can't you go with Kuldeep over Chahal, 3 left handed and big hitters, still you're going with left arm and leg spinner? this doesn't make sense to me. "

Roy: "Two players ( Rohit & Pollard) are playing against each other on their home ground. Great to see who take advantage of this condition.."

We're set for the decider at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, a venue West Indies will remember fondly, for it was here that they ousted India before becoming T20 World Champions in Kolkata in 2016. The six hitting was the difference between the sides then, as it was in the last match. Sloppy fielding arguably cost India that semi-final, as it did the last match, according to India captain Virat Kohli.

4.2
K Pierre to Rohit, 2 runs, oh stunning effort from Evin Lewis. He caught the ball, but released as he was about to cross the boundary. Rohit escapes. And it was poor from Rohit that he had to put in the dive to avoid the run-out scare on the second attempt despite having so much time. Lewis had to jump over the ad boards to avoid damage to himself, Rohit was just ball-watching. Rahul pushed him for the second run. But full credit for the shot though. Short delivery, pulled flat, looked six for most bits, but Lewis's piece of fielding scripted all the drama

Kesrick Williams to Rahul, 1 run, slower short of length delivery, Rahul delays his cut and sends it behind square, he wanted a second but Rohit is not interested. Lewis tidies up in the deep and seems to have done something to his knee

Lewis in down....knee injury

He is down flat on the ground. The physio is out there having a look at him. West Indies cannot afford to lose their in-form batsman especially when a big chase awaits them. Hope it is not serious.

11.4
Kesrick Williams to Rohit, out Caught by Hayden Walsh!! Williams has his finger on his lips and tells his mates to calm down. The break in play might have had a role to play in Rohit losing his concentration. He went for an ugly heave across the line and got it high on the bat, the ball stayed up for a long time and when it came down, Walsh was under it waiting. Terrific catch from the youngster as he had to run in from the boundary and keep his cool under such a pressure situation

Rohit c Hayden Walsh b Kesrick Williams 71(34) [4s-6 6s-5]

But no, he decides to get going from the start and perishes in the process. 17.4
Kesrick Williams to Kohli, SIX, Williams errs in length and Kohli has a few choice words for him after he sends the ball into the crowd. It was the slower back of a length deliveries that was difficult to score in the previous couple of overs, but this was on a length and allowed Kohli to get underneath it, he brings his bottom hand into play to whip it over cow corner

17.2
Kesrick Williams to Rahul, SIX, it is time for Rahul to step on the gas and take India to a competitive total. The slower balls is fed on a fullish length, Rahul sets himself by staying deep in the crease and lofts through the line, plenty of air time and it clears long-off easily in the end. Look at Kohli. He's charged up. He's making his presence felt to the bowler at the non-striker's end

Bhuvneshwar to Brandon King, out Caught by Rahul!! He's skied this and finds sweeper cover to perfection. Master stroke from Kohli as he had just shifted third man to sweeper cover, and blimey! A wicket! Seems like the Indian captain do no wrong on his wedding anniversery. Was probably a change-up from Bhuvneshwar and King clearly didn't pick it as he went for the loft over cover. Ended up slicing it high to the deep and KLR ain't missing those.

Shami to Simmons, out Caught by Shreyas Iyer!! Gone this time! Simmons was never looking comfortable and falls in the bid to up the rate. Makes room for the slog and only gets a thick slice over backward point. Plenty of height on this one and Iyer treks back, with his back to the ball and takes it over his shoulder comfortably. Chahar to Pooran, out Caught by Shivam Dube!! Sensational catch! Dube is the man at third man and he's pulled off a stunning catch, covering good ground forward and tumbles forward at the right time. Golden duck for Pooran and West Indies are coming apart here at the Wankhede. Pooran made room for the cut but was probably hustled by the extra pace on this one, ended up getting a thickish edge that seemed to be dying on Dube initially. However, the all-rounder had judged it well and pouched a beauty. Already, a significant difference in India's catching and it's showing

Narper 2019-12-11 16:02:51

India review for LBW! Surely hitting the sticks but is it pitching in line? The Indians feels so. Looks close in real time. Pitching outside leg! That will be the end of that.

5.6
Bhuvneshwar to Hetmyer, leg byes, 1 run, this was always about where the ball pitched because the height wasn't a problem and might well have hit leg stump. Hetmyer got foxed by the knuckle ball

Shivam Dube to Hetmyer, no run, dropped! Relatively straightforward chance but Shami at mid-off puts it down. This was short and wide, flat-batted by Hetmyer who couldn't quite get the placement right. Shami jumped a bit to his right to pouch it, in and out! After some good catches, this is a bump for India's catching. Kohli won't mind this though, purely due to the total that his team have on the board

Kuldeep Yadav to Hetmyer, out Caught by Rahul!! Change of angle works. But Kuldeep is lucky here, a juicy full toss and that was the last delivery he would have wanted to bowl. Hetmyer gets too eager on the slog and ends up mistiming it towards wide long-on. Rahul, gets across to his left to take a jogging catch and starts celebrating with a fist pump. Good blitz from Hetmyer but unfortunately, the target WI need demanded a much bigger score.

Bhuvi:
(On getting Pollard out) He is a good player when he gets going, so it was satisfying for me. When Pollard gets going, you know he can hit a lot of boundaries. It was satisfying to get him out. Can't bowl length balls to him. Need to bowl yorkers and bouncers. He is so powerful that if you miss even a bit, he'll punish you. In a night match, bowling second is tough. Difficult to grip the ball, and the ball also travels a lot here. Feeling good. When you do well in T20Is, it does feel good. Looking forward to the ODIs.

When you look at the way Rahul and Rohit went about at the start, they took their time and then exploded. Yes, we are disappointed but we look to move on from here. There is a lot of emerging players coming through the ranks. Success is something you need to do day in and day out. Those are things we are working out. All is not lost, we still have 3 ODIs to play. We will look to stay positive.

KL Rahul --> Man of the Match:
You missed Virat also. Both of them were in destructive mood today. Happy that we won the series and every game is important for us leading up to the T20 World Cup. It's obvious that our batting first record hasn't been that great. Today was a great opportunity and very happy that it came off. This will give a lot of confidence and now know what to do batting first. It's game will be important and a learning lesson for us before the World Cup. Like any other format, once you are set, you want to carry on and know what shots to play on. T20s has been kind and I try to do my best and give the results for the team.

Kohli --> Indian captain and Man of the Series:
We had spoken a lot. It was about going out there and executing. I was in the zone and I carried on. Told KL, he needs to bat on and hold one end. It was a pretty special innings and also being our second wedding anniversery, it was a special gift. Batting first we won and feels really good. I know I can contribute in all three formats. I think two guys in the middle with clarity and the way Rahul and Rohit played today was the key today. Batting first, we have been too tight and hesitant, but this pitch allowed us to play freely. You don't really feel the pressure when you have 20-25 runs on the board. Playing the World Cup in Australia, we will have to figure out how big the boundaries are..

Inconsistency caused us the series...
The big batters with exception of Cappo and Hety took a day off.
To beat formidable opponents windies have to play good cricket consistently.
