Sloan gawn home too
In reply to Casper
Venus Williams out, it will be interesting to see how long she keeps on playing, she is diminishing her legacy. Slone Stephens also seems to have lost her motivation.

I did not know that Sloane's maternal grandfather was a Trinidadian Doctor who attended Howard University.

In reply to dayne
Sharapova is not even a seeded player these days man, they jus gave her a wildcard. Were you expecting a different result?

Just left Cairns this morning and flew in to hotel in Melbourne 20 minutes ago. The Great Barrier Reef is Awesome and the rainforest trip yesterday to the Kuranda Mountains via the Scenic Railways was mind boggling.

Venus lost to Coco Gauff. How unfortunate can you be to draw her again in the first round?
Osaka through and Madison keys through too.
Tsonga injured and goes out.
In reply to Dukes
You're clearly having a great time

Yep I saw an aerial view some time ago. How far away is the F1 track? I can't recall where the Olympic facilities were.

Looks like you are having a grand time in Australia. Its truly an amazing country, with so much to see. Actually, too large for a single visit, and unfortunately too far. So, when going there, you have to plan carefully to get to take in as much as possible.
One of my biggest disappointments on my visit to Cairns was not being able to get out to the Great Barrier Reef, due to inclement weather.
If you had asked me, I would have recommended you go to the Northern Territories, to take in Uluru, to get an appreciation of the vastness of the Outback desert, to be shocked by the sight of wild camels roaming the place, to climb Kings Canyon, to visit Alice Springs and get up close to Aborigines in their natural environment.
Its simply amazing. Funny thing, if you had, you would have visited places where the majority of Australians have never gone.
Another visit to Australia is definitely on my bucket list; next time to include in New Zealand.

I agree totally. This country is as large as the USA.Off to a bus tour of Melbourne as well as a Penguin tour of Phillip Island.
Listen to this coincidence. We went to Bondi Beach and saw a black family. We waved to them and they came over.Turns out they were Jamaicans and were living in Florida and one of them recognized my name because she knew my cousin in Miami.Talk about a small world!!!
In reply to mikesiva
Yep. Saw it. Very unfortunate because Venus was playing well.
But now we see clearly the difference between youth and age Coco will be a natural walk-in replacement for Venus..... whenever she decides to retire.

Serena takes th 1st set 6-2
In reply to Chrissy
Serena needs to settle down and take more control of herself and her game. She is putting too much pressure on her herself in these matches.
I know shes determined to win this Slam, but she is putting out too much emotional energy. She needs to keep some in reserve for Week 2.
In reply to Chrissy
Serena took the second set at three.
First serve percentage was down, and the forehand was shaky. Improvements to be made by the time the second week comes around.
Madison Keys also won her second round match yesterday.
Today, Monfils beat the man-mountain Karlovic in four sets.
Pavlyuchenkova beat Townsend in two close sets.
Kyrgios beat Simon in four sets.
In reply to mikesiva
Kyrgios looks very serious this Slam. Hes going to go deep.
In reply to Casper
Fools gold.

Last night, Federer needed all five sets to get past Millman.
Monfils won his third round match in straight sets.
In reply to mikesiva
Thanks. I saw pieces of Monfils and much of that implausible win by the Fed.
Millman, much younger, is a beautiful specimen of fit humanity and he knows it and he shows it off. I never saw doubt or fear in his eyes until the last points of the 10-point tie-break. He just did not understand what was happening.
What was happening is that you bring all your talents, possessions to the court - basic ability, coach-enhanced ability, training, practice, nutrition, rest, massage, exercise, rotations as well as your stable emotions and your mental capacities. I believe everybody does this.
The Fed brought all of those to his game including an almost automatic and long-practised slick almost unthinking set of returns of service.
What took him to the top in those final minutes is not only his many years of experience but his intellect, his mind. A mind that always saw the possibility of success and compelled the muscles, sinews and tendons to do their thing.
A so me see-it!
