As we enter 2020, the realization is now very clear that each island alone will be faced with greater and greater hurdles to just make it in this world. The economic future demands we become one state to include all the Anglo Caribbean and Guyana in a unitary state similar to the USA.
NB: Belize and Bermuda to be included.

UNITED STATES OF THE WEST INDIES (USWI)
In reply to Emir
Good timing for this call for an amalgamated Anglo Caribbean.
Just when the Trinis oil done and Guyana find themselves with more oil than they know what to do with.

In reply to Drapsey
Its beyond oil, far more serious consequences like climate change, super power insularity, an uncertain Europe, an expansionist China, other aggressive Asian states and an unstable Latin America.
We cannot compete as small fries, we need to be big to get respect and compete with the rest of the world by realizing economies of scale in industry and trade, in the labor talent and in building a large internal market for our people.
In reply to Drapsey
I started this topic before and would be in favor of it.
In reply to Emir
Will we be able to move freely between territories?
In reply to Emir
Can't even manage caricom and now you are calling for a "united states"?
Get you head checked.
In reply to Dan_De_Lyan
Yes, like an American can move from NY to ViRginia to Arizona, Califormia, wherever.
In reply to Emir
What better economic future could an Anglo-Caribbean political union bring?
In reply to Norm
Much better than the status quo
In reply to Emir
Better local markets? Increased exports? Better services? Better regional food security? Better housing? Improved public health? More effective crime fighting? Financial stability?
What are your thoughts on how an economic union will result in a future that "much better than the status quo"?
In reply to Norm
Nope, not a Union like the EU, but one actual country, like the USA
Unless there is a Total & Complete Restructuring of the WICBC . aka
the Worst International Cricket Board
in the Commonwealth, including the Regional Cricket Boards ; West Indies
Cricket aint going to improve .
Like the Character in " Alice in Wonderland " the WICBC will be running very fast yet finding itself in the
same Freakig Place .
My take is that the Governments should help financially , however the
onus must be on the WICBC to tangibly
demonstrate that it is prepared to undergo very serious changes to its
Structure & Accountability to the People in the Region .
Hell the WICBC if it is going to get Taxpayers money , must demonstrate to
the General Public & the Governments of the Region , that it really serious about Cricket in the Region ; and intend perpetually to select the BEST Players in the Region to represent the Region ; obviously :
THIS MUST BE BASED SOLELY ON
PERFORMANCES RATHER THAN QUOTAS .
The stark freaking Fact is that
THE WICBC HAS BLUNTLY REFUSED TO
CHANGE ITS ARCHAIC STRUCTURE , WHICH
MAKES IT AKIN TO A DINOSAUR , WHICH
LIVED IN A BYGONE ERA .
It is truly sad that the WICBC is Hell bent on retaining its current over 100 years old Structure , come
Hell or High Water .
Its only concession is to indulge in playing Musical Chairs with its Personnel , when it holds its General Elections .
I get the impression that the WICBC wants Taxpayers money , and still continue with business as usual .
The Regional Governments will be
making a very grave mistake to give
the WICBC Taxpayers money to spend NILLY WILLY.
Once upon a Time Our Cricket Players
were the very Best in the World , these days We are floundering at or near the Bottom of International Cricket .
In reply to Emir
Need to have nuclear weapon to get respect
In reply to Emir
I seriously doubt that YOU or Anyone
can get the Worst International Cricket
Board in the Commonwealth to change its
Structure , which is a gross impediment
to Our current Standing in International Cricket .
In reply to Emir
So, you think that all it takes is the political structure. No wonder you cannot provide any supporting rationale for your conjecture.
In reply to Emir
The cheekiness but truth of Draps comment sailed over your head.
In reply to Emir
That is a bunch of poor countries coming together, no progress in that.
They need to submit themselves to the great Uncle Sam and rise with our economy.

Jamaican.
In reply to Drapsey
Hear this Drapsey, when we were the third wealthiest country in the Western Hemisphere and I think we still are,we wanted a Federation of the islands which would have made us one,I don't think Emir is planning to gain anything from Guyanas oil,it's the big companies who will gain.
Do you remember who say"we not joining".
In reply to Norm
No, who said that?
And who said it will be easy?
And who said it will happen overnight?
Come on, do I have to spell out everything for You?
In reply to Norm
No, who said that?

And who said it will happen overnight?
Come on, do I have to spell out everything for You?
In reply to POINT
Our cricket structure is a total mess and to fix it we need a whole new governance structure not just On the management side but a structure that will allow for ownership of cricket along the line like a public held corporation
In reply to nick2020
Yes, an American citizen by passport and West Indian by heart
In reply to Emir
Have you spelt out anything whatsoever? I asked you to expand on your statement that
Instead of expanding on that statement, you have just been mamaguying, which makes think that you simply cannot expand on it. In other words, no thought whatsoever went into your statement.
In reply to Dan_De_Lyan
That's the secondary objective.
With so such land available in the jungles of Guyana, a mass migration could be anticipated and actually accommodated. One of the positives being the conversion of those natural habitats (forests) to concrete jungles. That should result in way less rainfall thereby allowing Guyana to shed the nick-name of Mudland.
.
Negative! Will never happen!
Some of these Caribbean countries still insist on having a British Queen as their head of state!
They have not matured politically, still going to the Britain for their final court instead of CCJ (including T&T)
And will we be using one currency? hell no! SO that means countries like T&T and Barbados have to devalue our dollar to pick the slack on the failing Jamaican and Guyanese dollar ..nah nah
and who will be Prime Minister? which city will be Capital city?
and will a union mean better health care? better education systems? I doubt
In reply to Drapsey
The cement used to build that concrete jungle must come from the USA, since the primary objective is to copy everything American - lock, stock and barrel.
The objective is to be like the US, so that we could distinguish ourselves from those lowly "non-Anglos".
In reply to Norm
They might import it from the State of Jamaica (Carib Cement) then turn around and export it to the State of Guyana. That would suffice as (international) trade between the USA and the USWI.
