The CWI who administer cricket as well as W I cricket fans as evidenced by the sentiments on this board do not believe that the WI can develop a competitive test cricket team. They are going around the world playing limited overs cricket and the top players play little if any first class cricket and thus are found to be inadequate in test match cricket. However they still cuss the woefully underprepared youngsters when they inevitably fail at test cricket. Hope and Hetmyer average 27 in test cricket and that is the fault of all you idiots!!!

Until Hetmyer learns to not throw away his wicket, he'll find it tough to even maintain that 27 average. And that is entirely his fault and not that of CWI/
That said, I agree, a few tests should have been played against Ireland and Sri Lanka

I second the motion! 200 per ccnt!!

Clearly you either did not read the lead post or you read it but did not comprehend what was posted.
The players in the test team are not playing any first class cricket because when the domestic first class season is taking place they are off playing 50 over or 20 over cricket.
In reply to Dukes
The big 3 has taken test cricket away from the rest.
SL v WI in a test series requires a budget these two teams can not afford
Professional cricket is like any other pro sport. It needs $$$
Who is going to pay to see SL and West Indies play test cricket?
Companies that usually pay broadcast rights to cru let boards not exactly falling over themselves to pay for such a series
Which crowds going to come out to watch these test matches? Is not like if India, Australia, England, Sojth Africa playing.
That is not CWI fault, SL cricket board fault, or any group of posters on a message board fault. Its economics, financial viability, and waning interest in a format of the game that is the least lucrative for countries not in the top 5
What remuneration do young players get for playing FC cricket as opposed to the shorter forms of the game?
Some valid points made on both sides. But coming from a high of winning a series against England fairly recently this is a crying shame. We cant maintain this standard if we aren't playing regular test cricket or taking PCL seriously

Whether you are honing your career in college or as an apprentice, remuneration shouldnt be ones immediate objective! You have to become proficient at your craft before you can command reasonable remuneration!
FC cricket is the college or apprenticeship our cricketers need to become proficient at their chosen career!
Furthermore, the teams that are ranked above us, have robust FC Leagues that their top players participate in when not doing International duties!

Well said. Some the same ppl who here say play test matches won't even watch them or subscribe to the broadcast channels showing them so at least there is some sort of financial viability
The Boards have to agree what matches can be played. SL board who is hosting the WI board decided that it doesn't make financial sense to them. The Test Cricket Champtionship format dictates how many tests have to be played, so once they are played whenever so be it. Plus this is a T20 WC year so most teams working on their short team format for t big even later this year
WI will play test vs SA and NZ when they visit later this year and most likely those are more viable financial options than SL.
If it aint' about the dollars it doesn't make sense.
All that may be well and good.
But it is still sad.

Sri Lanka is presently engaging Zimbabwe in a test series
i suppose going by the logic of this board it should not happen
it defies logic
In reply to Dukes
Dukesy boss, this might be stage one of the plan, to use these ODI and T20 to gather enough capital to play more test cricket
In reply to methodic
what political capital is needed to get at least 1 test match in
what political capital zim needed to get sl to play them in a test match?
In reply to doosra
I don't know Zimbabwe situation
In reply to methodic
there is one fact
zimbabwe is playing sri lanka now
so what political capital is needed by wi?
Zimbabwe players could be playing for free
In reply to methodic
are u serious
CWI $20 million in red, playing Zim and SL will add how much to this deficit?
Since you are not going to make any money unless you are part of the top 5 then you shouldn't be wasting your time playing test cricket..... this is some convoluted logic.
How do you think you get to the top 5? You got to keep playing and improve by beating teams ranked higher. You don't make the money without effort and hard work.

Meanwhile people here and elsewhere berate Associates for playing better teams, go figure.
On your note, this is where the ICC should endeavour to support and encourage each of their Full Members to play Tests. Some of that revenue pie that's chunked away to the Big 3 should be used to guarantee all Full Members the opportunity to play at least one Test when teams are on Tour. But there's no political will to push it forward.
On a related note it's kind of ludicrous that the WI women haven't played a Test since '04. Insane!
In reply to Kay
no one is advocating not playing; you are taking the argument to the extreme, but budget constraints limit our choices in all matters, can point to several actions that would improve our society but we don't have the money.
