HEADLINE: Hetmyer, Lewis could be back with fitness re-test in two weeks

CaribbeanCricket.com 2020-02-05 15:03:40

Discarded West Indies batsmen Shimron Hetmyer and Evin Lewis could rejoin the West Indies squad in a couple weeks’ time if they are able to achieve the required fitness standards when re-tests are administered.

Hetmyer and Lewis were dropped from the regional team ahead of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, after failing to meet the minimum fitness standard required.

The Windies will play three matches against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club, the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota and the Pallakele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. The ODIs will be followed by two T20 Internationals in Kandy.

According to CWI chief executive Johnny Grave, the duo could return in time for the T20 series if they manage to pass upcoming re-tests.

“In the case of Hetmyer he has been extremely fit and bought into the fitness standards but for whatever reason, the test came back well below the minimum standard, but we expect him to be re-tested in two weeks. Hopefully, he’ll pass the test and be available for selection,” Grave told the SportsMax Zone
.

and all this time he was in the set up

so he and coach man phil and roddie eat out all a food night time?
big grin big grin big grin

and u expect him to move from 27 to 40 in 2 weeks?

big grin big grin big grin

Dukes 2020-02-05 15:10:35

If you have a test that a man can fail and then pass 2 weeks later, then it seems ridiculous to drop the man. The tour does not actually start until February 22nd and if he does the test February 20 and passes, then technically he is fit for ODI # 1.

TOTAL FARCE

i said last week he was dropped to reflek

i really do not have a problem if you are asking ppl to take more responsibility

--------------

IPL is coming up

Hety will be fine for it

i see the game Pollard dem play and cry about all over again - respect, time to go work elsewhere, unnecessary demands, public shaming, etc

What's the period of reflection if you fail a board or a bar exam?

doosra 2020-02-05 15:16:29

How did Hety move from

"Extremely fit" to poor fitness under the watchful eyes of

2 coaches
a training staff
a captain

?

isn't that mysterious in some ways...he was playing cricket non stop and mostly in the team

don't they have tests they do throughout?

was he playing unfit? why did they allow it

Evin Lewis played unfit against Ireland and scored a 100 and a 90+

doosra 2020-02-05 15:17:45

how much weight can hety lose in 2 weeks?

to move from 27 to 40 i am guessing he has to put in a lot of work

because it was bad enough to result in him being dropped

...wouldn't this increase the risk of him injuring himself?

Dukes 2020-02-05 15:18:00

In reply to Larr Pullo

If you have a heavy "cold" one day and you take the yo-yo test and get 27 and 1 week later when your cold is gone and you repeat the test and it is 50 does that mean that the rationale for dropping the person is justified?

No.

Probably, I always questioned the way he got out. Like player who was mentally tired IMO.

Out of all the dem players. One that live the closest to a madhouse failed the fitness test. Go figure lol.

doosra 2020-02-05 15:19:26

In reply to Larr Pullo

i mean don't they do regular fitness drills at training , etc

how can you get unfit while playing and being under the guidance of a system?

that seems strange to me unless they were not paying attention

at his age a lot and he could reach the required fitness too.
You ever hear about triple sessions

doosra 2020-02-05 15:24:42

Players, we are told, get tested twice a year

why the rush for another test in 2 weeks

if he is unfit to be picked, then let him take his time and come back when fit...

why the mad scramble?

that is my point

if he is in poor shape would u put him on triple sessions ie a dramatic shift from what got him unfit in the first place

and losing weight is one aspect of this...fat boys pass the test...see Rohit etc

so it;s not just weight, i am guessing...it must have been bad to worth a drop...

Fire the S&C and PT....

They are making a mockery in the white-ball segment; the T20 WC will come & go and we'll still be pulling puppet strings ...

Kay 2020-02-05 15:39:10

Why should Hety push himself to do a test in two weeks? Is the SL T20's such a big deal compared to taking his time and focus on getting prepared and be in top shape for the IPL in just over a month's time?

Andy99 2020-02-05 16:05:27

If a grown ass man cannot be responsible for his own fitness then he shouldn't be near a cricket team.
Wanna blame coach, captain, selector, board, etc.

Good question. That's why it's not an outlandish theory that Hety tanked the test so he could prepare for the IPL, AND get some more Gyulfren time in rather than fly all the way to Sri Lanka for a few meaningless limited over engagements. lol lol lol

All now he vex with Dukes and Doosra for complaining
lol lol lol

why the rush for another test in 2 weeks

It is yet to be determined what areas of fitness Hetty and Lewis are lacking - lose fat, run faster, build more strength and endurance. All those things generally takes more than 2 weeks to properly achieve.

The whole thing seems more like a planned disciplinary action towards Hetty and Lewis to correct behavior.

This sounds like comedy... What the f%&k can they do in two in weeks to meet CWI fitness requirements... big grin However, I wish the omitted players the best. Because, we all know they're being replaced with recycled material.
