Biden most helpful VP choice, Hispanic or Black female?

birdseye 2020-04-08 17:59:42

I think a Hispanic could be more advantageous - Biden already has good relations with the black electorate, a Hispanic could broaden his support without necessarily alienating blacks.

Biden counting on the same folks who let Bernie down? smile

birdseye 2020-04-08 18:14:09

Warren could be the most qualified but would her selection be strategic? It could be, her selection would garner many Sanders supporters --- Obama will make that decision wink wink

Poor Biden, having to choose from a pool of unpopular undesirable candidates

You may say it in jest, but she would bring a tsunami of excitement to the ticket, whether she translate to votes for the ticket ---- I don’t know, but man --- what a dice roll that would be --- but if the ticket wins she may be too busy for you to have her babies --- they would still have my vote(s) wink wink

IMHO I don’t think it makes political sense to go with a double minority, female and black!
So that leaves us with Klobuchar!
wink

History is not on the side of Biden if he goes along with his gaffe about a woman VP.
Just ask Walter Mondale, Ralph Nader and John McCain.

problemjay 2020-04-08 19:24:18

People who saying he choose AOC really not thinking beyond the surfave. If he choose someone with the political mindset as AOC this will for sure ignite the Republican, Conservative, Anti- Socialist, portions of the country to come out and vote for Trump in large numbers. Also this will be a gift for Trump to weaponize during his campaigns and rallies

Totally different times – women are in a different spatiotemporal situation. The days when men set the paradigm for women place in society has vastly decline, in most instances obsolete. The Mondale era is antiquated

embsallie 2020-04-08 19:43:31

The more prudent choice would be Amy Klobuchar or Elizabeth Warren partly because a choice of second mate should not be made lightly and partly because these two are experienced senators who have a grasp of everything. They seem to be more well rounded. Besides they meet one half of the democratic requirement: Being a woman; the other half would be a minority preferably Black or Hispanic.

Some would say Stephanie Abrams of Georgia because of the black vote and I say no. She should have run for senator this time around which would put her in good stead later since she is still quite young.
I think Kamala is best suited for being a senator. AOC is too green, too young (she is only 29) and inexperienced.

A better choice would be Mayor Pete, but then the old story about two white men......again... will rear its ugly head and leave a poor taste in the mouths of women around the Country.

Biden needs to hit that pick out of the park.

VIX 2020-04-08 19:46:38

White male

problemjay 2020-04-08 19:48:37

If his choice of a woman is seen and widely absorbed as, he chose her just to gain women votes then this will eventually hurt his campaign

As one poster pointed out, Walter Mondale's era has come and gone. America has moved on from that role (except for some old Republican yahoos) of women being in the kitchen and raising babies.

Ralph Nader never stood a realistic chance of winning.

John McCain's mistake was not picking the right woman. Sarah Palin was as dumb as Trump, if not dumber.

Exactly. That would be considered patronizing to some and an insult to others.
If he chooses a woman he has to justify the pick to his supporters on the basis of merit and not because ...

So an ethnic minority woman is a liability to the ticket?

Gov. of Michigan.

Gov. of Michigan.
Don’t know much about her, but the little I see of her seem promising.

How about Michelle Obama, an ethnic minority and a woman – what say yee?

seaegg99 2020-04-08 20:25:43

In reply to nick2020

Exactly. Ohio, Michigan and Indiana would be in play. Biden would bring Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Florida into play.

Don't think Michelle want that whole campaign thing!

Gov. Whitmer id making name right now and would be on people's lips. Think Kamala Harris might be Attorney General.

crazies...
You think Trump's rednecks will even consider supporting a minority or a female VP??

lol lol

5 more years of this shite coming up!

dayne 2020-04-08 21:21:20

I do not think it was wise for Biden to box himself in when he said his VP pick would be a woman, I do not see any advantage he gains from that statement. The upcoming Election is all about removing Trump, he should pick the most appropriate person, someone with the potential to be the next President.

More women vote than men.

michaelmax 2020-04-08 21:25:02

Trump's rednecks will vote Trump. Biden has a chance picking up Obama/Trump voters who just disliked Hilary. The key is going to be getting up the African American and minority turn out up but especially African Americans. Their turnout was lower in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania in 2016 compared to 2012. Biden HAS to have a person of colour on the ticket if the he wants to increase minority turnout without which he CANNOT win.

Philly, Milwaukee,Detroit BLACK turnout is the key to winning those States. Heck it was BLACK WOMEN who gave Doug Jones Alabama and this is going to matter for control of the Senate. There are some seat pickup opportunities in Georgia and Texas and those women will be needed if the Dems are to retain Alabama. There is no point to Biden winning without taking the Senate and keeping the House or its Obama all over again and Republican obstructionism.

VP pick inmho is Kamala or Stacey Abrams. The latter may help in Georgia as potential pickup in the Electoral College as well as with the 2 contested Senate seats.

I think it’s the opposite, Biden needs someone who can help him bring moderate/conservative to center/left!
If the Democrats don’t already have the black and Hispanic votes locked up, then they can kiss the election good bye!

On target here. Biden will get Black voters. He just showed it against Bernie. Winning Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida ends the race. Many voters in these areas didn't even vote in 2016. The midterms was a good indicator of what will probably play out.

Will add that many Puerto Ricans left after the hurricane and live in Florida and Pennsylvania now. Think this will help win these states.

TyTy35 2020-04-09 01:37:30

I think Biden got caught up in the moment when he said he'd pick a woman as his VP I know if he didnt make that committment he would have picked Cuomo in a heartbeat, right now. But since he promised a woman the best choice would be Michigan's Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She is white and the feeling is that he needs a minority woman, but Whitmer has shown that she will fight for her state and take on Trump. She is also Governor of a critical state in the Midwest state which the democrats have to win back to rebuild that blue wall that was broken 2016.

More women vote than men.

Yes, more women vote, but women do not neccessarily vote base on gender, for example the last Presidential Elections 53% of White women voted for Trump, although it could have been an historic occasion if Hillary had become the first women to be President.
