Rowe happy with Pollard's captaincy

“If you can play Test cricket, you should be able to move on and play in other versions and this is an area of concern,” said Rowe, adding that he pleased with the current white-ball captain of the West Indies team, Kieron Pollard.

"I am very happy with him as a player and captain. He is doing a reasonable job and I have spoken with him. I really thought that he should have been able to play in the longer version of the game but I believe that when Jason Holder was made Test captain at a young age, he should have at that time been given the captaincy in all three versions.

Rowe is right. But cameron banished him. Never got to play a test( Carlos Brathwaite, who is an inferior cricketer has) and Pollard was never one to be caged by cwi for his livelihood

So yuh 'like' Rowe now?

And I thought he would forever be persona non grata in West Indies cricket.

Is Rowe still coming in from the cold?

Nothing like the full-throated endorsement of an Honorary White!

Some truth there Spratty, but....

I think it is time to apply some forgiveness.

First, Rowe said he did not know about that term, "honorary white." Never heard it before or during the tour.

Many years ago I wrote in the Gleaner to the effect that many people who commit murder get parole after 25 years.

I believe that even though he made a total ass of himself when Mudman wanted to honour him at Sabina in more recent years, it is time to extend our forgiveness and parole Rowe.

cool

I would agree if 3 decades on, Rowe was not still trying to justify his perfidy by casting it as a pursuit of some grand ideal rather than selling his soul for some filthy rand.

Moreover, I find it hard to believe he was not aware of his "Honorary White" status, the attempt to insulate the collaborators from the every day indignities meted out to the Black majority in apartheid South Africa.

I first became aware of the designation at the time ER Braithwaite and Arthur Ashe visited South Africa and they were aware of the term. In fact, as I recall, ER Braithwaite's book documenting teh visit was called "Honorary White"

Understood. Completely.

I concede Forgiveness is not an easy concept because it is not only for those who deserve it but also for those who do not deserve it.

Rowe might not deserve it but that does not stop me and others for extending forgiveness. I find that no matter how bitter and perfidious the burden, I am lightened when I do that.

It works. Trust me.
