Today is Indian Immigration / Arrival Day. It was on May 5, 1838 that the first ship from India landed with its cargo of East Indians to work on the sugar plantations. The Whitby landed in British Guiana but it wasnt long afterwards that the Fatel Razack would land in Trinidad. There would be several voyages over the years to other places in the Caribbean. Ram and Khan and the other Immigrants brought their food, clothing, religions, culture etc. that we inherited and today we still carry with pride. Immigration stopped in 1917. Today, is a day of sober reflection and to celebrate our rich history and heritage
