Yeah for some reason I thought she might have been in her 70s.

I think you might have mistaken her for Betty White. LOL

They are starting to leave us in droves. Those of us of a certain generation in which our formative adolescent or later years coincided with the ascendancy of such star performers must mourn their passing.

Thank you, Betty. Thank You For The Many Things You've Done

RIP.

Betty wasa child prodigy

Betty Wright was three years old when she was placed on a pile of phone books in a studio in order to reach the microphone when her family recorded gospel music. She began writing songs very young, many of which were performed by her siblings. In the 1960s, Betty made the move to R&B music and while it was difficult for some of her church family to understand, she never left the hymns. In fact, all throughout her recording career, she continued to write and perform church music. Betty recorded several hit records and sang backup on recordings with Stevie Wonder, Harry Casey, and Michael Jackson.

I must admit that I listened to Betty Wright just in passing. There were such an abundance of outstanding Black female pop Divas from the late 60s. For a start Betty wright had to compete with the likes of Aretha, Tina, Diana, Gladys, Patti labelle , donna Summer then comes the 80s on and whitney, Mariah Carey, Anita baker Toni Braxton , Sade etc etc culminating with Queen B in recent years.

RIP SOUL SISTER.

Thanks Missa grine; didn't know this. Sporty's Thinking of You was a big party hit in Kingston in 1973. I still play it occasionally.

RIP Betty Wright. Thank you so much especially for these two tunes:-
Clean-up Woman and...
Tonight is the Night ... the original
