Just watched 4th test 84/85 vs Aussies

Yes Viv scored a double.
Yes Dujon took some remarkable catches
Yes VIv even kept wicket.
But the highlight was that innings by Walsh. 2 huge sixes and then Viv get out and left the man stranded;only 82 from his century.

Very Irresponsible of Viv!!!!

Actually there was talk in some circles of dropping Viv before this match. As I recall, he hadnt scored a century or anything substantial since the first test in England during the summer. I stand corrected.

He had gone 6 test matches without a 50 but I never heard such talk.

That's because his poor footwork but otherwise exemplary agility managed to make them look remarkable.

Would Dujon have become our first choice keeper
if David Murray had opted not to go to South Africa ?

Some might say if Dujon had focused on his batting he might have ended up averaging at least 40 in test cricket.I remember Umpire Kippins telling me that he does not understand why they have Dujon wicketkeeping.

Dujuon in full flow was a very elegant batsman. He and others got to play for the WI because of that South Africa tour. In a recent interview Richie Richardson remarked that before that SA tour he used to say to himself that there was no way he could have made the WI side.

There is no doubt that in 1982 David Murray was a better wicketkeeper than Dujon.Interestingly Clive and Co thought that David Murray was an excellent batsman too.I think David Murray might have made a century vs Kent on the 1980 tour.I will check.

P.S. David Murray did make a century against Kent but it was on the 1973 tour

I've known David from the Wesley Hall days, we being coached by Foffie William.at Wesley Hall Primary school.
There was rumours at the time, of Everton being his dad.
David was a good cricketer, we that played with and against him, felt he would play International cricket.
I had the opportunity to keep wickets in my last match in Bim, to David's bowling.

I can't say poor footwork, because at de end of de day, he got de job done. He kept in de air.

Ridley by de way, was excellent wid his feet.

I picked Allan Knott brain, when he was here in 1986.
He was doing drills prior to the continuation of the game, and was happy to give tips on wicketkeeping.
what did Lance say as to wicketkeeping?
