WI Provisional 30 Man Test Squad members
Should be squad for both Senior team and A-team.
Too many spinners because English wickets won't suit them. Four spinners in Chase, Cornwall, Permaul and Warrican two too many.
Preston McSween is interesting because he's the only left arm seamer in the squad.
No Brandon King? I'm disappointed.
I can't see the intent to win when some of the choices here will be challenged to win a match versus a 1980s West Indies School boy team. Forget wining against a Bajan team of the same era.
Too many reputation picks versus talent.
No K. Powell!
Barbados 12!
In reply to XDFIX
Surely Powell is better than Mosely.. Ah guess people in the setup don't like him..
In reply to anthonyp
In his interview on Mason,Kieron Powell admitted to failing the yo-yo test but said other people failed the test while others failed to do the test.
Hard to pick a final XI from that squad.. Since that surgery Gabriel didn't play any cricket.. don't think they should be rushing him back..
1. Hope
2. Campbell
3. Bravo
4. Chase
5. Hety
6. Dowrich
7. Holder
8. Paul/Cornwall
9. Roach
10. Alzarri
11. Chemar
In reply to XDFIX
Courtney Browne strikes again
In reply to anthonyp
Didn't Hope make 2 tons in one match during the last England tour?
In reply to Dukes
A lot of big names failed the yo-yo test, yet they selected them.. If that was one of the criteria to make this 30 man squad then players like Campbell, Cornwall, Gabriel and couple others shouldn't be in it..
In reply to Dukes
Was he referring to others who are in the 30 man provisional squad?
In reply to Walco
Yes he did. Kraigg scored a ton and a 90+ too in the same match I think.. since then both of them struggling to mek a lil 50 in test though..
Think Kraigg averaging about 15 in his last three or more test series.
In reply to anthonyp
I would drop Kraigg long before before I drop Hope.
In reply to Walco
Hope is in my starting team.. Once Hope, Hetmyer and Pooran in a squad they gonna always be in my starting XI.. By far the 3 most talented batsmen in the region..
In reply to sunfish
I really hope they pick him we need a left arm seamer in the test team.
Seems like Powell is the new Devon Smith
Powellcan actually bat but seems to lack concentration.
So apart from both being lefthanders, there is no really comparison with that other fellow with the low 20s average, after an almost 15 years, and 40-test career.
In reply to anthonyp
Did I miss when Pooran announce his availability to play test cricket? Thought that he, like Lewis, was not interested in test cricket. I am curious to seem him play tests though.
In reply to jacksprat
It is hard to lobby for Powell, his batting average is as low as a Test #7 batsman.
In reply to Walco
CWI had an interview with Pooran couple days ago on Instagram.. first question they asked him is if he wanna play test cricket.
He answer was yes.. that his body is far better these days so hopefully he will get a chance to play test cricket.. said because of the injuries he had to make certain decisions in de early part of his career..
The live interview was about 30 mins.. think it's still up on their page.
In reply to dayne
I am not lobbying for Powell- he has had a fair chance. Just playing devils advocate!
In reply to jacksprat
A when since VOR a the devil?
In reply to anthonyp
Thanks. I will check it out
In reply to natty_forever
He is, but is he touting Devon Smith?
In reply to dayne
They ALL have poor stats. Why does Powell's poor stats work against him but not anyone else? At least Powel has actually had the odd good performance at the top level.
We eh tired of rewarding people who cyah average 40 regularly in Regional cricket and expect to improve?
In reply to Maispwi
If the selectors only rewarded batsmen who regularly average 40 in regional cricket, how would West Indies ever field a team?
Wow that is realllllll nuff bajans den!!!
In reply to Slipfeeler
No Pooran!
In reply to Slipfeeler
No Pooran!
In reply to anthonyp
HERES A LINK TO THE POORAN INTERVIEW
12 Bajans and none of them is Justin Greaves
Forking Shayne Mosley? Paul Palmer? Really? This squad is a farce
In reply to Walco
Pooran is not in the 29 people in that squad.
In reply to Dukes
When are the tests starting? I will try to be there. There is something about Hety I want to see
Happy to see Holder Harding and Halzarri...de attack to be
Weve had that official selection criteria (needing to play the equivalent format of the game at the regional level) for decades.
Out selectors have rewarded top performers in regional cricket with selection. Players like Devon smith, Darren Ganga, Vishal Singh, Toni best, verasammy permaul etc
Hows that worked out?
Some players who are perennial performers get overlooked all the time....Nikita Miller, Imran Khan, until recently Rakheem Cornwall etc
That official selection policy has helped to have West Indies in the bottom tier of international test cricket.
Yet they continue. The poster child for the definition of insanity
In reply to imusic
They could have picked Webster, , Pierre, Ottley, Ottley n Mohammad
In reply to imusic
This is what can happen when players are not playing for a format, they are playing.

palmer, moseley, hamilton i know it'a a 30 man squad they got to put up some names to make up the 30 but really
In reply to imusic
Your boy just did not bat/bowl, to be selected.
His slot went to Kyle Mayers, because Bim has the maximum allocation.
Thirteen bajan would have created. havoc on this board.
hetmyer would not be in my side blackwood should replace him
In reply to openning
Since that ton Brooks ever pass 10 in any cricket?
Warrican, Mosley and Brooks should consider themselves lucky to be in that 30 man squad..
In reply to anthonyp
Why not address your concerns to the COS?
None of the Bajans picked themselves.
My response to my mate imusic, is a long debate that started almost a decade ago, nothing to do with the present selection.
In reply to openning
Shayne Mosley gets selected with a batting average of 35 scoring 490 runs
Last season, Mosley averaged 23.21 scoring 441 runs
How does he get selected over a player like Kieran Powell who has international pedigree and scored 429 runs this season at 30.64?
How does he get selected ahead of Devon Smith who scored 649 runs at 46.35?
How does Brooks with his 18.78 batting average from 15 innings get selected but Leon Johnson with 472 runs at 36.30 doesnt?
And thats just the batsmen.
Warrican is among the luckiest players in WI cricket history.
He keeps getting a retainer contract.
He hardly ever gets selected for a WI squad outside of a training squad
He took 13 wickets in 10 innings for Barbados Pride this seasons at an average of 23.38. Mediocre at best. Yet he still keeps getting selected in training squads and astonishingly, continues to earn a retainer contract.
As I say....the squad.....and criteria used to select it....is fraudulent
In reply to imusic
Bro, why dont you stick to your boy?
I would not had pick Moseley, neither would I pick Greaves. Are you aware Brooks, (and you know I am not a fan), scored a ton in his last test.
Now you get me so Offset, by bringing a Robot into the conversation
In reply to openning
You dont have to justify any selection. That is for the selectors to do. The whiners cant even blame Brown now. So dem confused
In reply to sudden
In reply to velo
Bare nonsense to see a guy like Palmer who can barely make a regional first class side in this squad.
In reply to Windies2017
It should have been King..
In reply to Windies2017
Selectors might also be think about forming an A-team from the squad.
In reply to anthonyp
It gets worse, Brooks just got awarded a FULL West Indies retainer contract and Rahkeem Cornwall who has consistently performed far more than the one-century Brooks, was only awarded a measly "developmental" retainer contract. Its a facking joke! Jason Holder and Roddy Estwick are running that Test team.
In reply to Judgement
so they decide who will get contracts too? at least there is no Courtney Browne to blame? so you had to find some bajan. how about blaming it on Gearbox?
In reply to sudden
You obviously have no idea how it all works. You think its a coincidence that fat, old, Bajan high school sports teacher Roddy facking Estwick, who has no international cricket experience, has a job as West Indies Assistant Coach and has all his ex pupils in that Test team? How the fack you think he got his job? Maybe a science teacher from Barbados should apply for the West Indies fielding coach job next!
You DO know that the West Indies coaches directly contact the regional boards to insist on who they want in regional squads, who should be regional captain etc, right?!
And you DO know that the selection process involves Jason Holder picking the team along with the selectors, as he does with all tours, or are you a blind and dumb retard?!
In reply to Judgement
I must be. so Estwick and not the head coach Simmons, and the captain can contact the power that be and decide who gets a contract?
In reply to Judgement
Post Brooks 4 year Avg, and you would see he was one of the better bats during this perod, before it was Brown n Jason, now it Jason n Estwick, next you going to blame Sudden and Powen,
In reply to tc1
According to CWI website
2016/2017 - 48.78
2017/2018 - 37.13
2018/2019 - 27.00
2019/2020 - 24.93
One of our best batsman.. deserve a permanent spot in the test XI

Post his competition
In reply to tc1
The only argument need to be made for Brooks is, he scored a ton in the last test match.
There is a reason why Barbados cricketers and Barbadians associated with the management of CWI, get all the blame.
Barbadian should be proud of it cricket accomplishment, having maybe the greatest player to ever play the game, and winning all most half of the regional tournaments.
I am a proud fan of Barbados cricket.
The BCA, just introduced Chamar Holder and Keon Harding, Championship teams, bring players into the spotlight.
In reply to openning
No, the argument is how he stack up against the competition over the last 3/4 years, the scoring of a ton the last test against a weak opponent add little value to Brooks.
In reply to tc1
Brooks since the U19 level, had one good performance in the regional tournament, then a number of performances at the A team level.
He has not develop with all that was expected of him, but the next 10 years may be better, than the previous ten..
The T20 league was one of the forward thinking from the BCA in sometime.
The BCA must get back to a competition, where the top players, play against each other, and forget about about clubs.
In reply to openning
That's how i know you is a damn cokehead! Brooks is 32 this year, what next 10 years you hoping for? Facking need a clip around your ears to check if there's a brain in there!
What your biased stupid ass should be asking yourself is how Brooks (by your own admission a mediocre player that has not developed) got a West Indies central retainer contract this year and the talented and consistent Rahkeem Cornwall gets a "developmental contract". We very sure Daddy Estwick and Boyfriend Jason played no part (and pigs can fly)
And yes of course the damn Bajans shine, obviously, because they get the most opportunities to get into the international squad and they get the opportunities for the most international exposure and experience DUH Of course they will then look the best when they return home to their domestic competitions you fool. In case you didn't notice there are TWELVE Bajans in a 30 man squad to England, what a thing! No problems making the squad even though most of them are struggling in test cricket or are brand new to the international scene - all just so convenient eh!
In reply to Judgement
My mother taught me to ignore jackasses.
BTW, I love the history of Barbados cricket, but I am also a critic, of what I have seen, the last 20 years.
As someone that believe in god, wish the best for him going forward.
Stop being an idiot.
In reply to openning
Your mother forgot to tell you to include yourself in that list of jackasses...
In reply to Judgement
I am my mothers son, if I had wrote about a person, she would had read the entire portion, and question me on a number of topics.
She was never partial to any individual, or segment of a discussion.
In reply to Judgement
I dont know any Barbadian cricketer or coach, I left the Island in 1970.
I never learn how to be political correct, even though I understand how it could benefit my career.
I go to bat for Opening only.
In reply to tc1
Make up yuh mind.. first yuh wanted his average for the past 4 years.. now all of ah sudden we gotta compare it to others
Who are his competitors by the way? Bravo? Hope?
In reply to Larr Pullo
Shame on the selectors. They are polarising every ××××××.
Some players should be rewarded for their consistent or outstanding performances during the regional tournaments.
Some may not cut it for the final squad but are you telling me they can't even make the 30?
How do you justify the omission of Devon Smith, N. Pooran, Leon Johnson and K. Powell?
Roger knows that they have to reward top regional players. During his interviews, he singled out some key performances yet they are not even in the 30 man Squad?
I call on regional officials to investigate and ask them selectors how do they justify the selection of some players...
Something just doesn't smell right.
In reply to anthonyp
You have to compare Brooks to the batsmen in the regional to determine if he warrant a place in the team.there are 4 opening in the middle , not 2.
I am shocked that Ashley Nurse and Jonathan Carter are not included in this 30 man squad
instead of Bravo and Gabriel yes
Please remember that the last test match the West Indies played,Brooks scored a century
In reply to imusic
What about Justin Greaves, is he not your first pick?
In reply to openning
I stated my position on Justin Greaves earlier in this thread
WI Selectors speak with fork-tongue!
In reply to Walco
The question in my opinion is Does
