There is a reason why I posted that Under 19 match from 4 years ago. I will explain in a subsequent post..

Norm 2020-05-28 04:11:56

Keemo's outstanding character was shown in the manner in which he handled a hostile crowd the first time he played in Zimbabwe. The crowd still remembered the "mankad" executed by Keemo to put Zimbabwe out of the Under-19 World Cup that WI won.

The crowd tried to upset Keemo by shouting "Mankad, Mankad, Mankad" whenever he bowled, but he remained focused on his bowling throughout. Soon he broke a stubborn Zimbabwe stand and put the brakes on their scoring, and the taunting from the crowd disappeared.

Here was a young man who would always put his whole heart into his team's efforts, and the crowd saw that. Anger turned to admiration, and the whole "mankad" business disappeared before the end of the Zimbabwe innings.

Keemo is an outstanding all-round cricketer, from very early in his career. He captained the Guyana Under-15 team in the regional tournament, and played regional youth cricket in every age category. Here is a photo of him and Tage opening the batting for the Guyana Under-17 team. Keemo dominated that combination and there was a lot of hope back then that he would blossom into a top notch batsman.

All the best to him, and may he continue to inspire others as he is already doing.

You should be proud - that is a brilliant production and a beautiful way to tell Keemo's story.

I became a Chanderpaul fan because of his humble beginnings and working class origins, and his dedication to his craft.

Keemo is my next iteration of Guyanese idol. Godspeed young man!
