I'm assuming that most people on here have abandoned cow's milk in favor of this tasty and lactose free milk, right?
For me, cow's milk is a thing of the past.

Almond milk
In reply to black
I had to abandon dairy altogether, including the popular whey protein. Brings on sinuses and worst make my eyelids swollen.
I use vegan protein powders (soy free) mix with almond milk and seeds such as chia, sunflower and pumpkin.
In reply to nitro
Is the protein powder made from sunflower and pumpkin seeds?
In reply to black
Delicious!
My daughter introduced me to it.
In reply to mikesiva
Almond milk had been gaining popularity very fast You can now purchase almond milk for the price of cow's milk.
bought unsweetened at COSTCO and was not impressed, coconut is the best nondairy milk!
In reply to camos
Really?
I've not used coconut milk for anything other than cooking.
Isn't it a little on the oily side?
Matthew 4:4 English Standard Version (ESV)
4 But he answered, It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Genesis 43:11 New International Version (NIV)
11 Then their father Israel said to them, If it must be, then do this: Put some of the best products of the land in your bags and take them down to the man as a gifta little balm and a little honey, some spices and myrrh, some pistachio nuts and almonds.
In reply to black
that was the milk my grandmother used for most teas
In reply to camos
I'm sure a cup of coconut milk would have sent her straight to the shitter.
Now, I've seen coconut milk that is not as oily but it appears, watered down.
Started with soy then rice now almond. Like almond the most still have not tried coconut milk but I'm sure I'd like it since I love everything coconut related.
In reply to black
If you get the chance try coffee with coconut milk!
In reply to camos
I suggest you buy almond milk at Shoprite or a regular supermarket. It tastes fine to me and I have been drinking it for more than 5 years now.
In reply to Dukes
I buy it at Wal-Mart, Sam's or H.E.B. (local supermarket).
In reply to camos
If you get the chance try coffee with coconut milk!
I would not have a problem with that, anything more than a teaspoon or two, is asking for trouble.
In reply to black
bro the oil content is not that high, have you ever seen people making coconut oil? or "oildown"?
In reply to camos
Like I said, I have not used it for anything other than cooking. The coconut that I have seen in cans, appear to be lumpy and clumpy.
But in all fairness, I have not gone looking for drinkable coconut milk.
bro the oil content is not that high, have you ever seen people making coconut oil? or "oildown"?
I have grated coconut for my mom to cook with, all you have yo do is add water and it is oily.
In reply to black
forget that, make your own!
In reply to camos
Dude, there are coconut trees everywhere, where I'm from.
Have you ever used a coconut grater?
When you mix the grated coconut with water, it is very oily. It might not appear to be oily but trust me, it is oily.
In reply to camos
My parents used to make coconut oil.
Have you ever had the byproduct of coconut oil? It's called Chan chi (Guyanese word).
In reply to black
My wife has gone way further than the Almomd 'milk'. She uses (voluntary or otherwise) this thing named Rice Dream.
Whenever I make mention to acquaintances the reaction is always the same reaction, "What the heck is Rice Dream?".
Have you ever heard of it?
In reply to Drapsey
No, but I'm assuming it's blended rice.
Usual Almond milk drinker, but tried cashew milk recently, it's thicker.
I have a suspicion that Almond milk is just glorified water, with color, and hardly any nutrients
In reply to Curtis
Could you tell us what the basis of your suspicion is?
In reply to Curtis
I have a suspicion that Almond milk is just glorified water, with color, and hardly any nutrients
It is fortified with vitamins and protein, there's a comparison in the link I posted.
I would think that cashew milk would be more expensive and more likely to be watered down.
Fill fat cow milk..I prefer yogurt made with buffalo milk, which is common in India..
In reply to Khaga
And Buffalo milk doesn't contain a lot of fat?
In reply to black
It does..
In reply to Khaga
So, do they make yogurt from regular cow's milk in India?
In reply to black
Yes..But,home made yogurt with Buffalo milk is way more tasty
In reply to Khaga
Do you (your family) own buffaloes?
In reply to black
No. But,the ones that owned used to supply us. Not a big fan of the super market milk we get here in the US..
In reply to black
This is the one i use

Have you ever tried not using any kind of milk to supplement your tea, coffee, etc?? I stopped using milk for two years now and it's one of the absolutely best decision I ever made healthwise...I do however use Casein and Whey protein which is derived from milk for my workout...
In reply to hotarobin
It's kind of hard to not use milk in cereal.
The best product from almonds is the almond butter. Great in protein shakes with the wonderful avocado oil.
In reply to nitro
I have heard of almond butter but haven't had any.
why not just eat the damn nut/seed?
In reply to black
This is my favorite of all of them.

or the Barney ones.
In reply to cricketest
Why do people put milk in cereal?
Is it just to look pretty?
In reply to nitro
Oh yes, I have had it, wifey bought it a few times. I still prefer peanut butter.
In reply to Dukes
Suspicion is based on how light it is.
There's no substance.
I've been using it for past 7 yrs or more in oats etc.
No concrete proof but willing to listen...I couldn't bother to Google its nutritional components
In reply to Curtis
There's no substance
Really?
You must have tried a really cheap brand.
Almond milk is thicker than regular milk.
In reply to camos
Well, that's the problem! If you were used to regular Vit D cow's milk and you went straight to unsweetened Almond milk, you would be turned off.
Try the Silk "Vanilla" Almond Milk OR Blue Diamond "Vanilla" Almond Milk. The vanilla is what makes the taste very similar to regular Vit D Milk.
My whole family has switched from Regular Vit D milk 15 years ago and it was the best decision. No more morning throat mucus and other side effects from drinking regular whole milk.
In reply to DukeStreet
You were doing great here.
Lost me here.
Oh I forgot, you believe in all that holistic stuff.
In reply to black
I didn't believe until I tried it. You need to read up on stuff more and stop scoffing at stuff you have no clue about.
In reply to DukeStreet
You believe in grounded up Tiger bones and Elephant tusks too?
In reply to black
Have you ever had the byproduct of coconut oil? It's called copra.
Thats a LIE! You are 99.99% not correct!
Copra is sun dried coconut that makes coconut oil!
BTW, Oat milk is new trend!
Never had anything but, cows milk! Wifey went from Almond to Oat!
In reply to StumpCam
No, not copra.
What do you call the left over byproduct from the oil?
It's been a long time.
You eat it with sugar.
In reply to black
Chan chi, I think!
In reply to StumpCam
Yes.
Thanks for the correction.
In reply to black
Ah watching yuh bai!
In reply to StumpCam
Bai, I left GT ah long time ago, used to eat Chan chi as a kid. I would not be caught dead eating that stuff now.
In reply to black
I may have tried once, but it wasnt my thing!
Speaking of cows milk, the thing we liked as kids was the first milk from the cow after giving birth! Think its called colostrum! My mom would boil it with sugar and we called it painus (sp) That was the bomb!
In reply to StumpCam
Yes, I loved painus as a kid, haven't had it in years.
In reply to black
In JA its called coconut custard.
In reply to CWWeekes
Man, I hated that stuff. Was forced to eat it on 'Ben Johnson' day.
In reply to Drapsey
It is really awful but we ate it as kids .
In reply to StumpCam
Never had anything but, cows milk! Wifey went from Almond to Oat!
I have not had oat milk.
In reply to CWWeekes
Nah, boss. Coconut custard is made from coconut milk; GT painus, I heard, is made from milk curd.
--Æ.
In reply to JayMor
Correct!
In reply to JayMor
I thought he was talking about the Chan chi (coconut byproduct) but I didn't see the custard connection.
In reply to black
I wasnt sure which one he was referring to either!
In reply to StumpCam
Who knows, I can picture a Yardman eating Chan chi custard.
In reply to black
No. But even with all dat evidence you must still believe that Roddy Bryan was not involved enough to implicate himself with that murder.
In reply to DukeStreet
On the contrary, I clearly stated that if involved, he would be charged with murder. I just didn't think he would be foolish enough to implicate himself.
In reply to Drapsey
man I love that stuff, put some salt mackerel in that and life is good!
In reply to black
You still a vegan bro
In reply to nitro
I'm not a vegan, my wife do prepare vegan dishes from time to time but I'm not vegan.
