West Indies pace bowler Shannon Gabriel will have a good chance of featuring for the final Test squad against England if he can prove his fitness in the coming weeks.

“We have to put this in perspective.  We selected 14, but Shannon, as we know, has come back from injury and being a senior member of the squad in the past two or three years we would have to look at him if he is up to that fitness level heading into the first Test,” Simmons told members of the media on a conference call on Saturday.

Let me explain something to you. Simple and damn plain so a little insular plain flour power man like you can understand.
Since I following west indies cricket is only the legendary greats as in fast bowler come back from injury and hold back their spot just so.
Michael Holding.Curtley Ambrose and Malcom Marshall...Good?
The likes of Andy Roberts.Courtney Walsh get drop in their time.
So where does Shannon Gabriel stand right now in the scheme of things?

Will they be selecting Gabriel to get match practice and to see his fitness?

As I said before, the reason why they only selected 14 was because there was some doubt about Gabriel. The 15 th place is either Gabriel if he is deemed fit or Oshane if Gabriel is deemed unfit. How Gabriel goes prior to the 1st test will determine the choice.

Gabriel need serious game fitness. Is he meant to get fit within a test match?
These warm up games are they gonna be up to first class standards?

Raggs has a point though.

This a not a great bowler by any standards. He has pace and it takes great fitness to maintain great pace.

His Home avg is 24.22 and away 42.67

Against Eng he avg 29.96 overall which is ok and he avg 31.63 in Eng. Fair stats for a support strike bowler.

HE has to play all this warm up matches and watched carefully.

Isnt that why he is the Coach? He is spot on. I just supported him with the stats.

No way will I say Simmons is not a bad coach.

The topic is about his fitness, the reason for him not in the selected 15.

I have no doubt that both Gabriel and Thomas will be in the final 14, though they were not in the original 14

This topic is how I see it. I will not be constrained by the minds of those in small islands

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things." "The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all."

Gabriel is also only effective when he bowled a at 92-93 mph. 88 to 90mph Does not work for him as his skill with the ball is limited. He needs to b bowling at his fastest to be considered in my opinion. He will get 2 out of 20 balls to move fractionally, everything else is gun barrel straight. If he can stay fit and consistently bowl 92 - 93 mph he should play.
