West Indies head coach Phil Simmons was granted permission to attend his father-in-law’s funeral in England last Friday. That’s the word from Cricket West Indies CEO Johnny Grave, who was responding to queries from Sportsmax.TV.

Simmons has been self-isolating since and will only be permitted to re-join the team on Thursday, July 2, if he returns two negative Covid-19 tests.

“Yes, he left to go to his father-in-law's funeral on Friday and is now going through the re-entry process having had his whole exit and entry approved and managed by the medical teams,” Grave said.

He is a coach not a manager that's a hands on job to a junior team trying to find their way into test cricket.

The likes of Alex Ferguson was there every single day with his troops until his dynasty was built then he took a view from his office and joined in the training and drills when he felt it was necessary.

Dude I believe a Head coach should have his own team, and should be making all the decisions during play.
Bennett King, Phil, Otis are all the same to me.
This is a unique situation, one I have never witness before, Phil and Joe Root were in the same boat, one the health of his father in law, the other the birth of his child.
They were both given permission to attend.

what did I seh? Sir Alex Ferguson earned that right to miss that game to attend a funeral the year was 2000. The man been managing Man Utd since 1985 and won everything in sight for the legendary club by then
If his brothers wife had died around 1987 when he was still finding his feet in the job and I must say he was struggling under the weight of that job, would he had then at such a delicate time, attended that funeral?
