Tell them Mikey
In reply to ponderiver
Mikey is a national treasure. He was eloquent, passionate and - as usual - honest.
In reply to ponderiver
that left Ian Ward and Nasser Hussain looking awkwardly down at their well polished shoes.
In reply to ponderiver
Yes...well balanced attack!
In reply to Raggs
Nas eventually found his voice but it was awkward....Holdings piece was probably the most important cricket interview ever
In reply to ponderiver
Absolutely fantastic review, analysis, and encouragement by Mr. Holding. I was impressed by his illustrations re Yale studies. Still such a forthright individual.

Here's some of it

Well said Mikey.
The reactions on that twitter feed speak volumes.....
Absolutely powerful speech by the great fast bowler. People calling for Mikey to be PM.
In reply to newdread
It does, doesn't it? It shows that racism is still rife among fans of English cricket.

I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY.
OUTSTANDING AND EFFECTIVE
MIKEY HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK
NEEDS TO GO VIRAL AROUND THE WORLD

Wow! His mother was a teacher. She would be proud. The whole family would be proud. I was a frequent visitor to their home when he was a toddler and know them well.

Isn't one of his older sisters a doctor?

Thanks for the video.
Well said, Mikey.

Lol. Correct
In reply to Raggs
unfair...Sky sports commentary are very informed and fair.
The thing I have always respected about Mikey Holding is that he is forthright, honest and does not mince words to pander to a particular audience.
Kudos to the great Mikey Holding - his Fortis background notwithstanding
In reply to Dukes
One of Mikeys best deliveries so far

Thanks.
Holding's views on the topic were well received. He is one of the few well-know people that bridges social chasms easily, and spontaneously. No prepared speeches!
In reply to Norm
Basically...He is educated and took the time to learn and understand the world in which he operates.
UMPS walking back out.

FORTIS EDUCATED SPEAKS.
In reply to natty_forever
Isn't BIG IDIOT also "FORTIS EDUCATED"??????

Mikey is a class act - period - he has never played the licky licky game
Well said Mikey. No one is born a racist.
In reply to ponderiver
Respect to Holding.....!
Just saw it.
Actually, the Sky replay was a speech Holding made in studio , interspersed with the Black female England cricketer's comments.
Same topic as his talk with Nasser and the other guy..
Spoken like a true Jamaican. Tears came to my eyes.
Here is another video including Ebony Rainford-Brent
In reply to Dukes
Yes, however thats due to politics why you all hate the man.
Marlon also.
Some never went to classes it seems.
I am sure Cawmere not going take flack because Sudden went there.
In reply to buds
I cried too
That was 1976 at the Oval, Bowling to Boycott at the Kensington oval, Kicking down the stumps of injustice in New Zealand all over again
Mikey metaphorically destroyed the stumps of privilege
He wss born for this moment no other West Indian cricketer past or present could have produced a delivery of such crushing faultless intensity
None will ever forget that moment.
Wake up call for Jamaicans and their Governor Gerneral... still kissing the Queen's ass.... ..
In reply to cupid20d
Figure head. But a get you.
It was amazing that speech embodies the entire civil rights and BLM movements, you could see at the end even Mikey was a bit choked up. Real Fortis!!!
In reply to Dukes
Yes. She is.

In reply to Maispwi
Thanks for that.
Holding said he could deal with it, because it was just for the summer. And he was going back to Jamaica soon.
Ebony felt the pain of growing up black in Britain.
I get through the racism, because I think like Holding. But my daughter grew up in Britain, so the pain and anger for her is so much worse.
This should come as no surprise that Holding expressed his views on BLM in such forceful, articulate and passionate way. Ever since the early 80s The likes of Viv, Holding and LLoyd made their views clear on Pan Africanism and the black man's cause when they turned down the huge sums of Apartheid lucre to sell their principles and play cricket in SA. It's refreshing to hear Holding expounding on race with such passion. I have a feeling that his traditional PNP upbringing prepared him well. BTW I notice where Linton Kwesi Johnson was awarded the Pen Pinter prize for literature. Yea, Inglan is still a bitch.
Nasser was quite passionate as well
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Bro, they are many influential Blacks, that would not had given that speech.
Just look at Foxnews and you would see, Don King and many Black GOP are part of that group.
This group is part of the elite in Barbados.
Once you understand Social Stratification in a society, and only think of your self, the love for others diminish.
Question is, how many people on this site knew of LH Latimer before Holding mention his name today?
How many on here know of his other inventions and patents? Change will start with the man in the mirror
leading the way as others follow.
In reply to mikesiva
He also said that once he found out how much the The WI winning helped to ease de pain of dere suffering he had a different perspective
In reply to Dukes
Marjorie and his other sister was Principal of the Edna Manley School of the Arts. I met Mikey when he was a Nat Sci. student at UWEE. He has always been very clear on matters race and racism.
I did not hear his clip with Nasser, et al... but the clip with Mikey and Ebony was gold and ought to be shared over and over again.
In reply to ponderiver
there will be no backlash for it...the time is right for the conversations...long overdue but the world is ready to talk...
In reply to Dreama
I love my history, as you guys know. And I had never heard of Latimer before yesterday.
Just goes to show. No matter how many degrees you get you can always learn more.
In reply to mikesiva
The more you know, the more you realize how little you know.
